Collaboration is key! I'm taking @countermetrics.bsky.social usage expertise & recent work on AI to @nisoinfo.bsky.social.

We've extended the AI metrics consultation to 23-Feb (after NISO+), so you've got extra time to consider the proposals. More at www.countermetrics.org/niso-ai/

Since Jan 1 2025, which feels like four trillion years ago, research has been shared on here 5 million whole-ass times. Bluesky recently passed 2 billion posts IN TOTAL.

So 0.25% of the entire site's traffic was citations to research.

That is actually massively high. Is it? Yes. Here's why.

It's #DistaffDay, traditionally when women got back to their textile work after the Christmas festivities (you know, because cooking, cleaning, childcare, etc aren't "real work"...). If you're a fellow textilist, what's on your spindle/bobbin/needle/hook/other tool of choice today?

Building out the materials for @countermetrics.bsky.social Academy took a lot of time and careful thought, ably assisted by @sianharris.bsky.social and with AMAZING modules contributed by @athenahoeppener.bsky.social and Beda Kosata.
Congratulations to our first COUNTER Academy graduates! Our first in-depth online course saw a completion rate of 86% and many positive comments from participants. Our second course starts in February. www.countermetrics.org/congratulati...

Today's question of the day, because I just really need someone to share my pain...

"Why isn't my Publisher 1 APIkey letting me get my Publisher G usage reports?"

For the same reason your office key doesn't unlock your house.

TL,DR: Publishers have 28 days to deliver @countermetrics.bsky.social reports - so November 2025 will be available on 28 December. If you're trying to get them now, it's too early.

Mélanie Marcon from @cnrs-inist.bsky.social was the clear winner of the informal @countermetrics.bsky.social Advisory Committee costume contest last week, at our Halloween meeting. Lucky for me she's a fellow knitter so over the weekend I spun up a skein of fluff as a prize!

We've already had a brilliant set of 197 responses. Thank you to all who have taken the time to provide your feedback. If you use COUNTER and have not done our survey yet can you help us get past 200 by the end of tomorrow?
Reminder: our survey closes at the end of October. Thank you for the amazing response rate we've already had but, if you've not yet had your say, this is your chance. Survey is open to anyone who uses COUNTER, members and non-members, in any job function. countermetrics.glueup.com/campaign/sur...

Tell us what we're getting right - and wrong - by responding to the @countermetrics.bsky.social survey. It's open to everyone, not just members, and is your chance to shape what we do.
We have just launched our 2025 survey. Tell us what you think of Release 5.1, our tools and education materials and COUNTER in general. And let us know your hope for the Code in the future. Thank you for being part of the COUNTER community. www.countermetrics.org/2025-survey/

I'm looking forward to this @uksg.bsky.social webinar on usage metrics! It's happening a week after Uncovered, so you get two UKSG events in one month. Uncovered is about managing uncertainty and risk in our ever-changing world, and it's a cracker of a speaker line up: www.uksg.org/events/uksg-...

Saw a new consultant yesterday for dodgy knee & even more dodgy shoulder.
1. I'm not allowed to do anything with my arm until tomorrow, so I'm sorry if you're waiting on something from me
2. PSA "Your shoulder is not supposed to sound like a maraca"

The project to reassess and update @countermetrics.bsky.social membership benefits and structure has taken a long time (more than 18 months to date!), but it will make a big difference to our long-term sustainability as an organisation.
From 2026 there will be some changes to the membership structure of COUNTER, unanimously voted in at the recent AGM. Learn more about what will change, and about the member benefits: www.countermetrics.org/member-chang...

Screen-free coding for kids? Try weaving! Jacquard punch-cards were the inspiration behind Babbage & Lovelace. Plus they'll have a greater appreciation for just how much work it takes to make cloth and might have second thoughts about buying fast fashion...
In the digital world we now live in, coding has become an essential skill. Teaching children to code doesn’t necessarily require computers or screens. Read the full blog here 👉 bit.ly/3HVFNtM
