Ausencia: a series of 9 lithographs created at La Máquina in Oaxaca. After completing the print, I gradually erased the drawing to underscore the fact that both the Mayan stingless bee (Melipona beeicheii) and the vanilla orchid are currently endangered due to environmental impact. #art #lithography
And so it begins…

They traded in our encyclopedia for a magic 8 ball
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I became a major fan back in grad school when a professor included the film The Harder They Come in our Latin American studies curriculum.

great read (even if you don't happen to have pelvic floor issues)
I wrote this piece because I only learned about pelvic floors a few years ago, despite having had one all my life. And then it turned out to be where I store all my issues. And then that turned out to be true for a lot of people www.wired.com/story/the-pe...
The Pelvic Floor Is a Problem
Everyone’s suddenly obsessed with the pelvic floor—physical therapists, MAHA influencers, me. Could this deeply misunderstood body part really be the seat of so much modern dysfunction?

(Spoiler alert)

When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond that will end without having determined who is responsible or how to respond.

I think growing up in the DC area caused me to form a similar attachment, because I find the footage very upsetting. It leads me to wonder, does this mean the White House will no longer be open to visitors?
Not to be cringe, but I'm surprised I am emotional seeing the East Wing demolition. My first job in DC was interning and going to meetings there regularly. I learned everything about it while giving guided tours. The beauty of the East Wing is that everyone can go there. It's America's house.

I think it is truly impressive how Schwartz's writing pulls off the trick of enabling you to see not only the man, but his powers of transformation in your mind's eye without having to resort to before-and-after photo spreads:
