This paper shows: people in the US and China see trade deficits as a power weakness. Americans who think China will overtake the US view bilateral trade deficits with China especially negatively (this holds for different political orientations and social-demographic backgrounds).

Four years. I still can't believe we did nothing, as a country, for four years, pretended to tell ourselves that "Every Day is Jan. 6 Now" & the "Republic faces an existential threat," & just let them come back without any consequence at all. What a sad, deeply shameful & unserious country we are.

New article accepted at CPS. @denis-cohen.bsky.social @thmskrr.bsky.social and I analyze how rental market risk affects radical right support. Combining data on local rent increases with the SOEP, we find that individuals facing increasing local rents become more likely to support the AfD. 🧵
