This paper shows: people in the US and China see trade deficits as a power weakness. Americans who think China will overtake the US view bilateral trade deficits with China especially negatively (this holds for different political orientations and social-demographic backgrounds).

Chinese exports to Europe will increase by 6% this year as a result of the Trump tariffs, the WTO says.

Meanwhile, trade in goods between the US and China will plunge by 81% and as much as 91% without any exemption.

Main findings:
- Trade-offs between geoeconomic and development objectives vary across instruments
- Sustainability-related instruments such as CBAM or EUDR are likely to be most detrimental for developing countries
- EU makes little use of differential treatment to off-set such effects
