📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

This is the most important issue facing Europe right now!
If chat control is enacted it will give access to your private messages that even the Stasi would have been proud of.

This measure is dressed up to protect the children, but any authoritarian or fascist regime could use it to quash dissent.

Nice, that should get us to the end of Trump's presidency regardless of what happens.
And seeing as the US is not going to be funding any more aid, timely.

Great article by @michaeldweiss.bsky.social
Well worth reading!

Personally I think Trump's comments will have an oversized effect on bringing his base to a more pro Ukrainian stance, where already the vast majority of US citizens support Ukraine and abhor Putin.

🤡 At a meeting in Moscow, a Russian diplomat told British, French and German envoys that Russia’s aircraft in Estonian airspace were a deliberate response to Ukraine’s attacks on Crimea, — Bloomberg.

Well if russian drones or russian aircraft enter NATO airspace after this threat of war from russia.
They must be shot down on sight as they are quite clearly belligerent.

Then all russian ships must be blocked from crossing the danish straits.

By European Navies and Air forces.
⚡️ Moscow envoy threatens war if NATO shoots down Russian aircraft.

NATO potentially shooting down a Russian plane in its airspace "would be war," Russian Ambassador to France, Alexey Meshkov, said in an interview with RTL.

Thread. I’d add that RU aircraft were engaged at the time in combat operations and regularly straying into Turkish airspace while striking Turkish allies in Syria. Suspect Turkey had also signaled RU to stop it or else, probably repeatedly.
Very annoyed with this ”but Turkey shot down a Russian jet”.

Turkey doesn’t have a border with Russia. If Finland did the same (when it’s ”only” an incursion), what would stop Russia from starting to shoot down Finnish (or other NATO) jets when they’re flying close to the Russian border ?

The US ceased to be a reliable NATO ally on January 20, 2025. The last week has simply made that undeniable. The only question now is whether European leaders accept it.

The USA will not now defend Europe from Russia. That is reality. Everything else is hopes and dreams.

“Prohibit transactions in crypto currencies.”

Ouch.
We are stepping up our crackdown on circumvention.

As evasion tactics grow more sophisticated, our sanctions will adapt to stay ahead.

For the first time, our restrictive measures will hit crypto platforms.

And prohibit transactions in crypto currencies.

There has been a lot of talk about a European Army, however it seems we also appear to need an EU Air Force!
Today's violation of Estonia's airspace by Russian military aircraft is an extremely dangerous provocation.

This marks the third such violation of EU airspace in days and further escalates tensions in the region.

The EU stands in full solidarity with Estonia (1/2)

Quite an enlightening article from Prof. Michael Kimmage and @linaskojala.bsky.social that sheds light on the current machinations and relevant historical aspects which have led to the White House meeting and the results achieved.
In essence, Europe albeit slowly is taking control of its future.
Trump doesn’t see the U.S. as Europe’s primary security guarantor. For its own sake, Europe must fill the void, which it has begun doing by fostering widespread support for Ukraine and greater investment in defense, Michael Kimmage and Linas Kojala write.
