We're really disappointed to hear that the bike lane network in Community District 14, including protected bike lanes on Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads, will not be installed this year as DOT originally presented. We're hearing they're targeting installation for next year.

On Wednesday, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a box truck on Morgan Ave near Cooper Park.

Members of the community are gathering tonight for an emergency action in response to this tragedy - both to honor the life lost and to call on the city to take urgent steps to make Morgan Ave safe.

It's really hazardous how narrow the new Brooklyn Bridge bike lane is when you get a flat in the middle of the bridge like I just did, cc @nyc.streetsblog.org @tabk.bsky.social @bikenewyork.bsky.social

There's not space to walk the bike to somewhere safe to fix it alongside two-way bike travel.

Streetsblog made a great video explaining why there's a gap in the bike lane on Ashland Place! #crashland

NYC built a two-way bike lane on Brooklyn's Ashland Place back in 2023... so why isn't it done yet?

Happy to see @bradlander.bsky.social and @davecolon.bsky.social highlight #Crashland!

"Lander noted the chaos the Adams approach brought as he biked down Ashland Place ... where City Hall chose backroom lobbying from real estate interests over safety."

@council.nyc.gov and Mayor Adams need to fund Open Streets!

Open streets are a refuge for me - places to meet up more safely outdoors and a small breath of fresh air among NYC's primarily car-dominated streets.

City government needs to make sure this incredible vibrant program has what it needs to thrive.

Another thing that keeps getting mentioned by those supporting Intro 606 including Bob Holden himself: if Intro 606 isn't the solution, what is?

Intro 1138 to daylight NYC would prevent thousands of crashes and injuries a year. If safety is truly the concern, this is a proven solution.
A lot of testimony is tragically misguided. Pamela Manasse — who suffered terrible injuries due to a crash — spoke in support of Intro 606. But the moped that hit her was ALREADY REQUIRED to have a plate. This requirement didn't prevent her injuries.

We need safe systems — not arbitrary punishment.
It's finally time for public testimony in the City Council hearing. Buckle up...
