#tbt when ppl knew FDR was crippled by polio and Balto's sled dog team raced to deliver vaccines to fight childhood diphtheria in Nome, Alaska, 1925. 100 years ago.

Walking through older US graveyards, you see this pattern: women under 30, kids under 5.

The life shots save may be your kid's. 💉

It has been the honor of my life to serve as Commissioner of BLS alongside the many dedicated civil servants tasked with measuring a vast and dynamic economy. It is vital and important work and I thank them for their service to this nation.

Why is there so much uncertainty regarding tariffs?

Tariffs via executive order can literal be flipped on and off with the stroke of a pen. That provides latitude for quick shifts in policy. The problem is that quick shifts add to economic policy uncertainty, which is its own tax on economy.

So much love for this little app, household name and eventual verb "to Skype." It was a game-changer, and it was open and free to use. Will be much missed.

Heroism a hundred years ago, winter 1925: 20 mushers and >100 sled dogs raced across the tundra in dangerous conditions, bringing antitoxin to children with diphtheria in Nome, Alaska.

Kids are now protected from diphtheria by vaccines.

It's a very sad day. Just notified that @iza.org is closing its doors as of 31 December 2025. At a time when labor is under attack and technological change moves at an ever-faster pace, I can't help but think that this is a short-sighted decision. My heart goes out to those folks who work there.
