I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

Wild to think it'll be my birthday in five days, though I'll be spending most of it in psychotherapy class...

But if you ever want to help me out during a challenging time (no luck in job-hunting), any ko-fi dono would be greatly appreciated, but only what you can manage!

Generative AI is also causing me more work as a college professor, in teaching, research, and admin work.
So far AI is causing me more work.

One of my main responsibilities is to use a database to find certain things. This database used to have humans look at the webpage of a thing and then write a description.

Bad AI descriptions have led to an increase in false positives I need to sift through.

As an author, I’ve already gotten multiple emails from people asking me for fake articles and books that I’ve supposedly written, because chatbots have told them fake references. I *cannot imagine* the frustration and time waste for librarians and especially ILL library professionals right now.

Hey y'all 👋💚 I'm really struggling to afford groceries, gas, and bills right now. Most immediately, I need gas to go buy cat food tonight. If anyone's able to help with a dollar or two, or sharing this post, it'd mean a lot! Venmo swampgoth CA $gothswamp ko-fi.com/swamp_goth

Pay editors.
Pay artists.
Learn how to self edit if you can’t afford an editor.
Use a photo editor (without ai) and make a stock photo look nice!!

AI is lazy and *most* people will appreciate the effort you’ve put into your book and cover!!
I will never use AI for my covers, editing, translation, or anything else. It is not only useless to me as an author, it is actively hostile and harms every skill related to book production.

If you're an author against AI used to generate writing, you better back everyone else in the chain too.

Today is Dysautonomia Awareness Day.

This condition has been devastating to live with.

It’s so much more than “just fainting”

When your autonomic nervous system doesn’t work, you get issues with your heart rate, breathing, temperature, digestion, respirations & more.

SNAP is not the reason your taxes are high.

SNAP recipients don’t need to “just go get a job”.

Most of them work. The rest are disabled, elderly, children or caregivers.

People need & deserve assistance

Your taxes fund wars and tax cuts for the ultra rich

Be mad about that

No.

Our mask requirement is not "virtue signalling".

It's protecting a) the cancer patient and b) the child who is still too small to wear a mask.

And also--and I can't emphasize this strongly enough--you.

The #DisabledJoy hashtag was started in March 2018 by Andrew Farkash on Twitter.

It's quickly evolved as a disability concept created for and by the disabled community.

As such, we want to celebrate Disabled Joy as a part of Disability month which is October.
