“Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference,” she told audiences. Those words remain her truest epitaph.

These were the only photos I took the entire week…but the @icft2025.bsky.social was a huge success and I felt incredibly grateful to attend and present my research on lake trout spawning behavior in Lake Erie.

I've written a Substack about the #ColossalBioSci #DeExtinction #DisInformation campaign; it's focused on polluting the information landscape, rather than the underlying science (except for species concepts, I talk about them)

NEW PAPER, JUST OUT! 👀

Insects from the '70s and '80s were already collecting microplastic, decades before the term microplastic even existed. 🤯

A thread on the surprising history of this pollutant and the incredible insect larvae that helped us uncover it. 🐛

Wading into the bsky world with an update on my lab. My university's comms team did a nice write-up on our new project on native mussels. We're propagating unionids as the first baby step toward a reintroduction program in the Niagara River watershed. Really fun departure from my usual fishy focus!
Can freshwater mussels clean the Niagara River?
UB scientists are investigating if the water and sediment quality of the upper river can support these organisms that naturally filter out contaminants.
