Minnesotan Tornado siren protocol:
Question 1: is it the first Wednesday of the month?
Question 2: is it 1pm?

If the answer is yes to both of these questions: ignore

May we never have a tornado on the first Wednesday of a month, at 1pm.

Buying pumpkins for a carving contest at work. The glow of city street lights guide drivers through the cold, inky darkness. Street sweeper trucks swish leaves, rumbling along. My car trunk is full.

Our office building’s vending machine sells candy bars for $3.50. Does anyone else on here remember saving their dimes, nickels, and pennies for a 25 cent candy bar, biking to the store, and also bringing a note with permission to buy cigarettes for mom, who didn’t want to go to the store?

If my workday had a soap opera name and tagline, it would be:
“As the script runs! These are the days of our metadata project lives.”

It’s 72F outside. Mr brought the snow shovels out of storage. It’s easy to tell who remembers Minnesota’s Halloween of 1991.

Like many others, I did some searching for what “plenary authority” means this morning, and a UK paper provided the answer rather than US media.
Plenary authority, the dictator phrase that caused Stephen Miller to stop talking
Miller suggests Trump wields absolute power over decisions to send in National Guard, before suddenly stopping speaking in awkward interview moment

It’s called “Constellation” but I see lots of individual eyelashes. It’s the ‘eye of the world’ to me.

Getting ready for a long weekend vacation to celebrate Mr.’s birthday. I’m looking forward to an architectural boat tour, wandering around museums, and weekday brunch.

The dentist w/ a clinic around the corner bought the mostly empty lot on the other corner to build a bigger dental clinic & underground parking. There are so many dentist offices nearby that my neighborhood could have been named Dentaltown instead of Tangletown.

I filed the homemade mac & cheese recipe with the ‘vegetables’ section, and no one else can ever find it. But where else would it go?

Dinner in progress, the sauce is simmering for a good bit of time. Love recipes with built in cocktail & reading breaks. 🍸

Arrived at work. Wearing the same outfit as my only other colleague who is in the office (so far) this morning. I guess there’s a uniform at my press today.

Question: Why are many people under the impression that Trump and the awful things he’s doing are popular, even though they’re not?

Answer: America is still a mostly free country where dissent against Trump’s dictatorial ambitions is widespread, but media keeps making it appear as if it’s not.
What the actual fuck.

US Tennis Association: “We ask all broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President’s attendance in any capacity, including ENG [Electronic News Gathering] coverage.”
U.S. Open Orders Broadcasters to Censor Reactions to Trump
An email obtained by Bounces includes instructions from the U.S. Open on supporting Trump's planned stagecraft during the National Anthem.

Using photos of our dogs (instead of our standard headshots) in a presentation slide deck seems fun and funny on a Friday afternoon. I wonder if we’ll feel the same on Tuesday morning when it’s time to present? 😂

Mr and I are having family over to grill and might finally put our giant Yahtzee game to use. Do all family game night games come in yard sizes?

After a mentally exhausting workday, deciding what to have for dinner because the family doesn’t like/want/feel in the mood for what is listed on the menu planner is not a decision I’m willing to take on. Girl Dinner for me. Everyone else is on their own.

I love hearing about readers’ odd shelves and journeys from book to book—when someone reads a novel set in Venice then a history of the city, and a mystery series where the city is a character, etc. Reader pathways between books are so interesting.

I can’t decide if the history of food & food writing is one of my odd shelves, or if it’s ubiquitous enough in my reading to be a main section of my library.
