Full of rage. Trying to stay calm. Human services, policy, social justice, anti-racist, ally, mom, genX, UMich. Midwest roots. NYC is home. People are suffering. Disruptive stuff—neuroscience, psychedelics, mental health innovation. Also…democracy, obv.

Dept of Community Safety w 5 areas: gun violence, subway safety, mental health crises, public homelessness, and hate crimes.

“NYC is behind the curve on many of these efforts, but Mamdani’s proposal offers a significant opportunity to move forward.”
Opinion: Mamdani’s proposed Department of Community Safety would be a win for New Yorkers
The proposal is well-grounded in existing best practices, and there is wide support for it among the public and City Council.

He bulldozed the White House during a government shutdown to build himself a ballroom, then sent a letter to the states saying that SNAP benefits for 42 million people may not go out in November to those who rely on it to eat.

🧵 An open letter to the US Open and USTA:

Trump will attend the #USOpen as a guest of ROLEX. Yesterday, Trump declared 'WAR' on Chicago. The USTA has called for media censorship of dissent against Trump today.

I played NCAA tennis many years ago and still play. Today I resign my #USTA membership.

Chilling example of the damage done by DOGE’s recklessness. Great thread. The @propublica.org article is worth a read.
On the left: Nate Cavanagh, a 28-year-old DOGE staffer and college dropout.

On the right: Mohammad Halimi, a 53-year-old exiled Afghan scholar.

This is the story of how DOGE targeted Halimi on social media.

Then the Taliban took his family. 🧵

RFK Jr. just fired thousands of federal workers at crucial health agencies, including the FDA, CDC, and NIH.

These are the people who inspect our food, track infectious diseases, and research life-saving treatments and cures.

How is this "Making America Healthy Again"?

These people are monsters. Heartless monsters.
The Trump administration has promised to distribute food aid before it spoils. But 500 tons of emergency food in a U.S. warehouse are about to expire and are slated for the incinerator, @hana-kiros.bsky.social reports.

I’ve just never understood why MAGA ever thought Trump and his minions would ever release the files. The million photos of Trump and Epstein together weren’t a clue?

What am I missing?

Overwhelmingly, even toxic twitter proves we’re still just not that into you, Andrew.

Not big fans of the corruption, the bullying and the abuse of women. And we don’t need more cops.

This is going to hurt the red states a lot. 🤔
One in four nursing homes have said they’ll close facilities because of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” – and they passed it anyway.

Talk to, essentially, ANY families who have moved someone into long term care recently. There’s not exactly a surplus of facilities around today…

NEW: House Republicans in damage control mode after voting to gut Medicaid and it's getting weird.

Their new lie: We didn't cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, we gave it more money! www.huffpost.com/entry/house-...
The GOP Is Doing Damage Control After Cutting Medicaid — And It's Getting Weird
“We are increasing Medicaid expenditures by $200 billion,” Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.) falsely said of Trump’s tax law, which will strip health care from millions.

This will get much worse as Medicaid cuts decrease access to critical upstream services.

And no parent should have to relinquish custody to get the help they need.
A 'crisis' of youth landing in emergency rooms or juvenile detention is exacerbated by treatment facility closures.

PLEASE consider the valid concerns of those who voted this administration into power. Yes, millions of people are going to lose their health insurance and/or jobs now but what if a trans person had won a swim meet?? What if pronouns in bio came to life and bit people who could afford medical care???

It’s costing taxpayers $450/M annually & Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp is already flooding. Imagine a hurricane. People are going to die.

There’s always enough money to hurt folks, but when it comes to public transit, low-income housing, schools, or public healthcare, “Sorry, we’re broke.”

We knew this regime was going to be bad. But still, the daily and ever intensifying cruelties leave me in a constant state of astonishment.

Inconceivable betrayal.

I guess they think their own kids and families (and parents) are safe. We’ll see.

The big UGLY Bill that will now be signed into law is cruel, costly, and people will die. I will keep fighting and never give up.🙏💜

If only the Dems could learn from this. 🤔
Wow. The single biggest voting bloc in the NYC mayoral primary was 18-24 year olds.

I’m not sure that has ever happened anywhere.
