"Though we are not all called to be martyrs, we are all called to be witnesses." -Bishop Joseph Tyson

Thank you Bishop Tyson for calling us to witness to our faith in this moral moment.

Yakima Bishop Joseph Tyson: Not all can be martyrs like Pretti and Good. But we can be witnesses.
"The Greek word 'martyr' literally means 'witness.' The tragic deaths of witnesses like Alex Pretti and Renee Good reveal the darkness around them," writes Bishop Joseph J. Tyson of Yakima, Washington...

“What is interesting about this moment is, if it’s your employee you’re protecting, or your kid’s teacher that you’re protecting, or the street vendor you buy tacos from once a month, that feels very personal.”

I would like to draw particular attention to the importance of international humanitarian law. Compliance with this cannot depend on mere circumstances and military or strategic interests. - Pope Leo

Masked government agents are killing people in the streets, abducting people from their homes in the middle of the night, and arresting those who speak out.

If this were happening in another country, what would you call it?

Reminder: ICE has a budget bigger than most militaries around the world.

It has increased its spending on weapons by 700% since Trump took office.

Trump is building his own personal military to terrorize American cities, trample on civil rights, and intimidate his opponents.

it is true that it *should not* matter that the murder victim was a white, middle-class, U.S. citizen mother, but it is also true that it *does* matter and that the story reaches people who might not otherwise be reached as a result.

For months, Trump’s DHS has wreaked lawless havoc in our neighborhoods. Tear gassing infants, families, and police. Firing their weapons at peaceful citizens. Killing innocent people.

It’s brutal, unconstitutional, and out of control.

It must stop.

Kristi Noem must go. Now.

U.S. military spending is set to hit a record $1 trillion.

Roughly half of defense spending goes to private contractors that routinely price-gouge the government.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has failed EIGHT straight audits.

This is the military industrial complex on steroids.

I am struggling with what might be a generational experience. The gulf war was pretty politically formative for me. It’s not history so much as memory this time.

It is destabilizing to see almost the exact same gameplan but this time without the guardrails that at the time I took for granted.
