In today's Ask the Agent Question of the Day, I talk about a publisher's non-compete clause, and why authors ALSO shouldn't want to compete with themselves.

(I had WAY too much fun with this metaphor, I apologize in advance, especially to anyone named Brad)

In Welsh folklore, Peredur (Sir Percival) offended King Arthur's brother Kay when Peredur didn't notice Kay one winter's day. Peredur was enthralled by a raven standing in the snow. Its black feathers reminded Peredur of the hair of his beloved and the snow reminded him of her skin.

Eight months ago when I was barely a twinkle in BlueSky's eye, I posted this exquisite painting but it garnered just one 'Like'. Just one (and that was probably my mum). Yet look at all those hashtags! I feel the poor neglected beauty deserves a repost.

Some fairy-tale queens hide their real power behind gentleness. Think of the queen in “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” who teaches wisdom in riddles. Softness can shape destiny. #FairyTaleTuesday

Agree 100%, though it was LOTR for me- so different from anything else I'd read!
I love the creativity that goes into good world building and magical theory. I love that anything can happen. I love talking animals or just super intelligent ones like the mare in Range of Ghosts.

I've been hooked on fantasy ever since I read Narnia as a kid. Some might see it as mere escapism,* but for me it's just the fascination of other possibilities, other ways a world could be, what that can say about our own world, & the potential for different stories & characters...🧵

Hild by Nicola Griffith

I loved the way she worked nature into the story. Much of Hild's prophetic "visions" were due to the fact that she was a keen observer of nature, the behavior of birds, etc.
