I just voted NO on Republicans’ budget that pours billions more into ICE and DHS. We must not fund cruelty.

"Growing the white flank of a multiracial justice movement is bound to be messy. Russo argues that these groups reorient our understanding of antiracism away from a matter of individual morality and instead towards an emphasis on collective action to change systems. This is a crucial achievement."
This week is the official release date of White Flank: Organizing White People for Racial Justice. The timing is painful but perhaps important. (more in comments)

Thousands here at Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, the site of deportation flights. Clergy have blocked the road at terminal 1 departures singing “before this campaign fails, we’ll all go down to jail. Everybody has a right to live.”

Resharing this article from @mariajstephan.bsky.social as people across the country (and especially in Minneapolis) show us the power of mass noncooperation in fighting authoritarians today.
We are stronger than we think
Federal workers, faith leaders, unions and ordinary Americans are showing the power of collective defiance and how to make cruelty backfire.

A politics that convinces us to see our neighbors as threats instead of allies is what actually harms working class white people.

Billionaires have everything to gain when white communities feel like they have more in common with them than with other working people of all races.

Part of why we are here is that there WERE in fact millions of white people who took to the streets in 2020 after George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and others were killed by the cops. So no it's not the case that white people are just out in the streets now. Fascist white people were ENRAGED by this.

Journalists often go on hand-fed ride-alongs with agents.

Seldom, though, do they get into the cars of everyday people protecting their communities from those same agents.

We just did exactly that, in ICE-occupied Minneapolis:

Outside the Whipple building in Minneapolis—

Feds just emerged and unleashed pepper spray on demonstrators for approaching the driveway, sprayed one man directly in the face repeatedly. Pepper balls.

Air is toxic, there were children out here in strollers. Reporters caught unprepared.

In Minneapolis this afternoon—

Hundreds are streaming across the snow and ice into Powderhorn Park for a rally and march demanding ICE leave Minnesota.

It is bitterly cold. There are hardcore Midwesterners out here making their way in with trekking poles.
