The media trots out the "deplorable" comment from a decade ago to castigate the left. Once a week now Trump implies that the military should destroy democrats, and it is just how things are.

When democracy challenges their preferred status quo, too many of these folks shamelessly turn to authoritarian tactics to overturn its outcomes. The current climate only emboldens these fascist fools. Those of us who still believe in the promise of democracy must not give up the fight!

“he argued that racism was intended to establish a “nobility of the skin.” Whiteness, Sumner understood, was a class hierarchy—an insight that is still resisted by people on every part of the political spectrum”
wrote about Charles Sumner, someone who proved that racism wasn't somehow natural or unquestioningly accepted in the past—which means it's not natural and shouldn't be accepted today, either. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/charles-su...

This part. There are practical benefits to resistance to disappearing people off the street & they are evident. It’s not that protestors are winning it’s that they’re stopping democracy from losing completely.
It’s blindingly clear at this point that the protestors in Los Angeles are in fact helping to prevent a fascist takeover, and the pundits who suggested that protest is counterproductive were being either stupid or actively malicious.

Heartbreak, hope and great reporting from @marisakabas.bsky.social

Our small town is not so far from Sackets Harbor, and we’ve been following this terrible story closely.
New — I spoke to the school principal of Sackets Harbor, NY, where ICE handcuffed and disappeared a mother and 3 kids (including a 3rd grader). It’s also the town Trump Border Czar Tom Homan calls home.

Cook tells me about how the small town is taking on enormous power to bring the students home:
Try that in a small town
ICE disappeared a mother and 3 children. Neighbors of Trump's Border Czar said hell no.
