Here to commune with fellow advocates, change seekers, English teachers, book lovers, runners, moms of grown children, wanderlust-ers. I believe in empathy, kindness, and the right for all humans to be treated justly. 🤍

"Although it once seemed like a good idea to give every child his or her own device, it’s clear that those policies have been a failure."

I don't agree with everything here but I do worry a lot about the % of a school day a student is staring at a personal device...

Comedians/satirists (think SNL) are often able to shine a light or call out wrongs in a way that many others can’t (or won’t). They really are here to hold our leaders accountable. Silencing them for doing just this is wrong; it’s scary; it should be what we call UnAmerican.
When a network lays off one of America’s greatest satirists, it’s not because he failed. It’s because he succeeded too loudly.

They keep talking about punishing protestors as if this country wasn’t FOUNDED BY PROTESTERS WHO ENSHRINED THE RIGHT TO PROTEST, I AM SO TIRED OF HOW STUPID THINGS HAVE BECOME

The wording in this is so Orwellian, I can’t even believe it’s real. And again, I’m shocked that I’m shocked.

If you have a student (or newish) teacher on your gift list, I cannot recommend this book enough! @mrtomrad.bsky.social gives it to us straight while also demonstrating what a beautiful profession this can be. It’s helped facilitate many wonderful conversations with the new Ts I work with. #EduSky

Here's the thing—I’m good with my taxes subsidizing welfare benefits for neighbors who cant afford food.

But I’m enraged with my taxes subsidizing corporate welfare for billionaires who won’t pay living wages or their fair share of taxes.

You wanna cut waste? Pay workers. Tax billionaires. Period

Imagine that. Now let’s do paraprofessionals.
Shockingly, we solved our bus driver shortage by raising the pay, but also working w/the city to give them full time jobs, rather than asking them to work for a few hours in the morning & a few in the afternoon. There are other issues contributing but a full-time job w/good pay will fix most of it.

I feel like it is so important for ME to read and respond to student writing. It provides me with so much insight to where they shine and where they struggle. And they deserve to have ME look at their efforts. I just need more time. #EduSky #Englishteachers
To be very clear, as a teacher I don't want "time-saving AI tools."

I want time.

Okay, let’s give this one a try. Left the bird place a while ago; enjoyed threads. Looking to follow and engage with fellow high school educators, people who care about kindness but aren’t afraid to get tough if it means protecting the rights of others, and oh yeah, perimenopause - ugh.
