Amused by the fact that the #BitesizedBookClub session focusing on happy/positive stories is the one that has generated the most divisive opinions and (friendly) disagreement so far 😄 Thanks to everyone who came for the interesting discussions!

Because, here's the thing. We're told: "it's the way of the world; it's human nature," as an excuse for every act of cruelty or selfishness we witness, in the hope that we'll just stand by and watch. But it's not human nature. It's human choice. And we don't have to stand by. We can stand up.

'Stella felt the universe hold its breath, wrap its extravagance around her (her! tiny, insignificant Stella!)'

Speaking of happy stories, this one by @emilyrinkema.bsky.social is a moment of joy encapsulated!
Read the one and only Emily Rinkema’s (@emilyrinkema.bsky.social) brilliant micro, “Nine-fucking-teen,” in The Bulb Region today.

“…and there she was, clicked into the moment as if it were a groove, as if this crisp moment were the sole purpose of evolution…”

Well, I settled on four that *I* think are happy. Will see what everyone else makes of them at the session next week! 😊
Today's debate, as I try to finalise my choices for this month's #BiteSizedBookClub... how much of a bittersweet edge can I allow myself before I decide something doesn't qualify as a happy flash fiction? 😄

Maybe 'It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)' by REM

Or 'I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)' by Meat Loaf
Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

This is a beautiful story
A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

'you just want that storm to break, need to feel that thunder in your bones even if lightning gotta strike you first, you just gotta know — can I beat that devil?'

Lush, mesmerising writing - don't miss this one from @mynachang.bsky.social!
Happy for my first publication of the year to be in Ghost Parachute! Huge thanks to @brettpribble.bsky.social! And thanks to Brett J Barr for the illustration!

(It's always a treat to find an editor who doesn't want to "edit" my use of dialect! 💜)

Hope you enjoy my tiny devil story!
