I wrote this when I was angry that some of my very close Texas friends decided to vote for Trmp. Women I adore. Who voted against my daughter's rights, against their own children's future. We are still friends but I will do more to advocate for what I believe is fundamentally right.

At midnight as Saturday begins, annual funding provided in the DHS bill will lapse, leading to a “DHS-only” shutdown. What that means in reality is complicated. Short 🧵

tl;dr is ICE/CBP continue w/ pay, FEMA largely continues bcuz it has tons of money still usable, TSA continues w/ pay for a bit

“Since I got to this center all you will feel is sadness and mostly depression.”

These are the words of a 14-year-old held in an immigration detention center.

Trump is spending your tax dollars keeping kids like Ariana in detention, not lowering costs.

Headed into DOJ now to review the unredacted Epstein Files.

After yesterday’s disgraceful performance by Pam Bondi, it’s more important than ever that we double down. We’re going to see the documents ourselves and keep fighting for justice for Epstein’s victims.

NEW: the U.S. Congressional Budget Office has posted its budget and economic outlook--the first full one we've had in a year so the first one reflecting One Big Beautiful Bill and the Trump tariffs.

Going to post observations as I move through it. 🧵

A motivation behind the GOP megabill was increasing investment incentives by cutting taxes--partially financed with higher deficits.

But a problem with that theory in the current macroeconomic environment, higher interest rates wipe away ~half of those incentive benefits.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.

President Trump has made $4 billion by illegally trading access to the White House to get rich. He controls the Dept of Justice and the Congress so he won't be held accountable - until he doesn't control the Dept of Justice and Congress.
Trump’s Profiteering Hits $4 Billion
In August, I reported that the President and his family had made $3.4 billion by leveraging his position. After his first year back in office, the number has ballooned.

Update on the situation.

Heating is back (very minimal, just enough to keep the radiators from freezing).
Power lasted about three hours, but that’s okay;
rolling outages are our reality here.

Having a warcoffee.

Trump kneecapped Biden's revitalization of U.S. factory investment.

The tariffs often make building a factory in the U.S. cost-prohibitive. They cost jobs, too.

All they have done for our economy is raise prices and crater manufacturing jobs.

How on earth did this uncouth buffoon ever make it to the White House? More baffling, how on earth is he still allowed to continue wrecking the country; economically, socially and politically?
The U.S. is sadly unrecognisable!
