But seriously, it's a small example of why telling people to "just grow your own food" in response to outrageous food prices, supply chain issues, Corporate Farm exploitation, etc., isn't all that helpful for many folks.

Reminder for the "not everything is political" folks burying their heads in the dirt. There are people living in areas that forbid gardening, deny space to grow, &/or prohibit collecting rain water due to policies & laws. Gardening can be a form of resistance, but it's also a privilege.
Girl you garden girls are EXHAUSTING That’s not even allowed where I live. And for people in section 8 housing it’s BANNED outright. They pour bleach on that shit in some places.
Plant a garden. Even a container garden. Flour, rice and beans are solid staples. Cheap(ish) protein is pork and chicken. General rule of thumb is cheaper to make from scratch. Casseroles and one pot dishes easier to make and freeze leftovers.
