NYT will sanewash the Trump administration into authoritarianism. Obviously, this is not a "standoff", it is a shakedown.
Also, any European politicians who still thinks the current U.S. is an "ally" is delusional and incompetent. The Trump administration is an adversary at best, an enemy at worst.

Whenever Trump does something crazy, people try to rationalize it. Now, they're saying it was Venezuela's "heavy, sour crude" that made him kidnap Maduro. I think the truth is much scarier and less strategic: He simply enjoys the feeling of power and humiliating his opponents.

I have to say that I genuinely love the United States of America. I have been there 3 times, visited 14 states, been to Yellowstone and Rocky Mountains, enjoyed wilderness and cities. I never thought that a day will come when I will say that the USA are not our friends. Not our enemy yet..

In 2024 Americans decided that they wanted cheaper eggs and elected a president who has decided that we in the Baltics and eastern Europe in general belong to the Russian sphere of influence. So I hope that at least the eggs in the US are cheap now…
