"Since at least 2014 we are watching a coup against democracy unfold. It is the combination of hybrid warfare, rise of the far-right, and tech coup.

How long can Europe hold the line if we don’t take defending our democracy as serious as defending our territory?"

For the last month (arguably year) Ukraine and Europe have been effectively negotiating with someone who claims to be their ally over a deal that they find entirely unacceptable and that the other side of the war has already rejected.

Take a moment to think about the performative insanity of that.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

trump admin sanctions are outrageous and purposeful:
1. ensure europe doesn't regulate their political allies on the right, enabling space for incitement, disinfo, propaganda.
2. promote muskian/big tech lawlessness
3. distract from its unprecedented domestic repression of speech
The US State Department is now going to be deporting people and/or revoking visas over Benz, Taibbi, and Shellenberger’s “censorship industrial complex” hoax.

Let that sink in. This is what the Twitter Files pretext was actually about. Water boys for authoritarians.

Europe’s Trump strategy is a self-defeating trap:

By giving in to Trump on defence, trade, and democratic values, Europe has bolstered the far-right forces that want to see a weaker EU.

The way out: restore EU's agency where we still can.

If any doubt remained, it is time to put it to rest:

Trump is behaving in ways that consistently benefit Moscow.

The real question is why.

“Trump has walked into every trap.”
“the mind meld between businessman-turned-president Donald Trump and Russian propagandists may be the most successful covert influence effort since the Churchill government’s secret campaign to draw Franklin Roosevelt into World War II.”

A tempting mark—why is Trump behaving in ways that benefit Moscow?
Moscow appears to have used these vulnerabilities to influence Donald Trump, and, unfortunately, has done so with considerable success
