i am rooting as much as is appropriate for mamdani to be an effective mayor because if he manages it, he will be an important model and national leader for american progressives — one part fiorello la guardia, one part robert la folette
Holy shit it's real

Over the weekend my son and I assembled bookshelves while listening to my record collection, which might be the most Dadcore thing I’ve ever done.

Are auto-battler/auto-chess games still a thing? I have a vague memory of them being absolutely the indie genre du jour but can’t remember any titles or when.

For ten years now, it’s been an annual tradition in our house that Christmastime = @nickofferman.bsky.social x Lagavulin “Yule Log” time.

It’s just not Christmas without Nick’s calm beatific face smiling at me from the TV.

I’ve been struggling to articulate this but

I watched the 1987 RUNNING MAN movie the other night and, despite being terrible in so many ways, it just looked more *like a movie* than most studio films these days.

The sets! The sweaty actors! The montages for no reason other than creating a mood!

James Baxter is so freaking cool because for 40 years he has been grinding it out at the singular skill of hand-drawn character animation, and he is now arguably the best that’s ever done it. He also has a reputation for being one of the absolutely nicest dudes ever. What a guy.

Obviously, this is amazing BUT the thing I love most, is that it's directly poking fun at the desire/fetish to overanimate overlapping action & smears.

Asking someone of James Baxter's calibre to *intentionally* do this (as well as mess up the spacing on a bounce) is funny in the nerdiest way.

I love Zip Disks. I don’t even have anything clever to add. This arguably shouldn’t be Quoted post. But just wanted to say that.
