Husband of one, father of four. Writer and other things. What was your favorite part of the day?
If you never heard or read anything Terry Boers said or wrote about Chicago sports or the human condition in general, that’s your loss. Unique isn’t a good enough word. He’d be the first to tell you he was imperfect, but the city has had very few who could claim to be a heavier hitter.
RIP Terry Boers. A brilliant guy who made sports radio in Chicago the unserious, hilarious, yet sharply critical place it had to be.

The Liberty in Libertyville, Illinois. They say Marlon Brando worked here. I'm not old enough to have experienced the original configuration but am sufficiently ancient to have seen films like "Follow That Bird" in their initial release. It's shuttered and needs an angel investor.

Waiting for the 17-year-old to get home and finally getting around to SNL50. I have pop culture thoughts, but also bourbon, so this is enough typing for tonight.

Need a resolution? Walk more. Write more. Be nice to strangers. Happy New Year.

Internet users are both consumer and commodity. Your attention is what’s bought, sold, kept and manipulated for profit. That is the fundamental business model of the internet.

No social media site, not even this one, insulates you from that dynamic. Accordingly, you owe no presence to any of them.

Which of you are the cool dads and who wants to tell me what video games the kids like these days? Switch 2? Are those arcade boxes you can get at Best Buy or Costco worth anything? Trying to turn a new family room space into a hangout.

Is there a reverse image search for the card game my kids swear I taught them? They know the rules and I have no idea where it originated or what it’s called.

@treykerby.bsky.social Guy near to me at the blood drive trying to convince the guy between us to get on board with the Bulls. A real “Bulls are Back!” In the wild situation. Huge Giddey fan.

We attended an amazing CSO concert tonight. Listened to the Blue Jays feed of G7 on the way home. At the most tense moments, they threw it to the third guy in the booth for hockey scores and a CFL update.

@milkepescs.bsky.social Because you asked, the H20 thing did elicit a cringe.

Speaking from personal experience: This is the kind of thought that — while true, defensible and sane — warps otherwise healthy minds when filtered through modern social media.
Sometimes, you don’t argue with someone to change their mind, you argue with someone to give information to all the people in the room who are watching and still have an open mind about things.

I have said it before and will say it again, but: being able to see something and go "well that's none of my business" when it actually, truly is none of your business is a very important skill to cultivate.

Went to the Twins game Friday where they hosted the Nationals, so when we watch the playoffs in October I can continuously point to the TV and say “We saw that guy play in July!”

Never really got to meet him, but Ryno got to watch my son play second base on the same field where I dreamed of one day being Ryne Sandberg, a memory that always reminded me how baseball is timeless and legends live forever.

Probably a hundred Royko columns made me want to write opinion pieces in the newspaper. Almost all still hold up. This is one of the finest. The greatest American columnist on the most important ballplayer we’ll ever know.
The largest paying crowd in the history of Wrigley Field was the day Jackie Robinson made his debut. Wrigley is the only park left Jackie played a game in. Mike Ryoko was a kid at that ballpark that day and he wrote about it. Take a minute and read this today.
