The violent scenes that played out in central Sydney last night were deeply troubling, and entirely foreseeable.
We are Australians, first and foremost. Inviting a foreign head of state to Australia when the consequences for social cohesion are so obvious shows a serious failure of judgment.

The way the Labour Party in the UK & the Labor Party in Australia have dragged themselves to the right on so many issues, to the point they both now closely resemble their oppositions of two decades ago, has entirely alienated me. Greens will be the winners from this & I’m certain I’m not alone. 😡

I was brought up to believe that the police were there to help. And because of my white privilege I have believed that for a long time. But tonight my 19yo son was pepper sprayed for taking part in a peaceful protest. My position may be changing. #FreePalestine.
