Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

This emerges amidst leadership challenge rumours.

Me thinks someone is gunning for Starmer.

I think though McSweeney needs to go. Good in the election campaign but the Tories did most of the work themselves. Out of his depth when it comes to governance though.

Starmer expresses regret for signing off football watchdog appointment
The Prime Minister told his standards adviser he made an ‘unfortunate error’ in approving the decision to appoint David Kogan to the role.

The key is to raise taxes enough to actually be able to do something with it, beyond placating the OBR and bond markets
Breaking the tax pledge is the right call...and politically sulphurous. Reeves must argue, far more forcefully, that taxes are *the* essential downpayment we all pay for a fairer society.

Patrick Diamond and I wrote for @renewaljournal.bsky.social. Key points in 🧵 👇

If Labour want a fairer society, they must argue for it
Labour must make the political argument: taxes are the critical downpayment we all pay to live in a fairer society.  It now seems all but certain that direct taxes will rise in the forthcoming Budget...

So true. Musk, Trump, Bezos, Zuckerberg have more money, opportunity and advantage than any of us will ever have.

Yet they lead joyless, soulless lives.

Money only brings happiness if you use it to help/do good.

Going to their graves never appreciating what life is really about.

What a waste..

The BBC employ roughly twice as many people as the UK fishing industry. You'd think people would question Farage's patriotism and intentions wanting it shut down.

Such a big scandal that no one even noticed for a year.

The libel law in the UK is one year.

So it is already beyond prosecution.

The Right Wing fascists are ridiculous and all the puppets dance to their utter nonsense.

I feel sorry that this gentleman feels this way.

Having watched the interviewer and read various articles he never actually said why he feels the country is worse / the sacrifice wasn't worth it.

Too many people are reading into it their own political views. Using it to justify their own opinion.

This is what is happening. It is cynical. It is strategic. It is organised. It is well funded.

And we need to pay attention.

The far right - and their cheerleaders, mimics, tribute acts, and handmaidens have identified two presentational frameworks that give them cut-through and traction. 1/7

It is a low bar possibly, but seeing a politician win, especially a significant win, by galvanising disenfranchised voters on a platform of unity, compassion and hope, a platform which supported marginalised groups such as migrants and trans/non-binary individuals, feels pretty important right now.
