It’s really hard to overstate how christians are brought up on tales of the martyrs and how that instills a really deep longing to have a chance to face persecution to prove your faith to yourself and others.
In retrospect the Bush-era War On Christmas stuff seems more ominous than it did at the time. It was just cable news guys crying about dumb/fake shit, then and now; I mean the campaign to turn Christmas, which most everyone likes and feels warmly about, into just another thing to get mad about.

My good friend Howie Klein passed away today and I am bereft. He was a fierce progressive, music impressario, creative organizer, passionate world traveller and the mensch of all mensches.
Howie always fought the good fight and inspired many to do the same. I will miss him terribly.

Finished Department Q last night, and while I loved it and very much look forward to Season 2, it may be the one "british" series that probably could have benefitted from being maybe one episode shorter.
Loved the character stuff, but the Merritt plot was WAY too complicated. #filmsky 🎥

The archaic spelling "pease" (still occasionally found in the UK as pease porridge) was mistakenly thought to be plural so a singular "pea" was excised from the word. But make no mistake the next time you eat peas: the plural is supposed to be "peases," like Gollum would ask for.
