Cacao comes originally from the Amazon Basin. It grows under shade trees. Out on agricultural frontiers in the Tropics, where rainforest is being lost, cacao in agroforestry can be a barrier to deforestation. The alternatives, cattle, Oil Palm, mean farmers cutting down all their trees.

This while US greenhouse gas emissions actually rose 2.4% in 2025, reversing a downward trend. We have the technology to end fossil fuels but some want to drag us backwards.
NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.
