Bare in mind Mako's replacement was also a straight up apprentice under him. Mako taught him how to do the voice with all the proper intonations and all that. A rather novel idea for replacing irreplaceable talent!!

So the folks behind Futurama did this very crazy thing. It's truly a revolutionary idea. It was called "Cast a guy that sounds like him". And they did. Billy West was cast as Brannigan and honestly delivered such a pitch perfect take on a character clearly meant for Hartman.

Not only that, but the showrunners for BOTH of those IPs invited Mako’s daughter & grandson to the studios to tour, see the new content, make sure they were comfortable w/ all of it, etc. out of respect for them & Mako. (They are old family friends; Sala’s husband & my dad are lifelong besties)

I can understand the sentiment that a voice so defined a character that it's difficult to imagine it without, but if you believe that, AI necromancy should be the LAST thing you want! It is a mimicry of voice bereft of all *authorial* voice, bereft of intentionality, bereft of character.

I think Hollow Knight: Silksong is genuinely a new Top 5 favorite of mine in terms of games. The original Hollow Knight was already pretty high up on my favorite games and Silksong blows it out of the water at every turn.

This is just going to drive more people to making original media and away from major companies like Disney.
