UK population-based cohort study including 14 083 patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
HDP associated with a doubling of the risk of developing dilated cardiomyopathy. Risk was increased with severity of preeclampsia, older maternal age & postpartum hypertension.

Asthma in pregnancy
Study from the Albert Pregnancy Birth Cohort, incidence of asthma was 8.6% & maternal asthma associated with 15% higher risk of PTB, an 11% higher risk of LBW, and a 10% higher risk of C-section. Risk increased with active asthma

I received one of the 232 NIH grant "terminations" sent to scientists at Columbia last night. My research focuses on improving maternal and child health in the US. Also affected: ongoing clinical trials, research training programs, and research centers that aim to improve the health of Americans.
