Dear bsky:

If someone quotes you (initial post or response) with text and they have reply/quote off for that post:

THAT PERSON DOES NOT WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. DO NOT TRY TO RESPOND BY REPLYING TO SOMEONE ELSE WITH MY ID SO IT SHOWS UP IN MY NOTIFICATIONS. I AM JUST A PASSING BREEZE, LET ME BE.
"Familiarity"

The excuses just keep on coming, don't they?

Please, everyone: look up Baby Duck Syndrome. Take it to heart.

And yet if you only had one choice of cars, or bread, or whatever, you'd complain. If you went all in on an automatic transmission car, would you complain about the lack of a clutch?

Please stop spreading this fallacy that too much choice is bad and take responsibility for your choice.
I don't need 8 or 5 options, i need a quick way to do it, and on Ubuntu, i get zero, which is sad.
The variety of distros also adds to the difficulty to navigate.
Anyway, thanks for your help!

Baby duck syndrome. You aren' familiar enough with them, therefore you don't believe they are capable enough. I could say the same about the programs you use, but I at least know it's due to my inexperience with them, not their capabilities.

Stop spreading these falsehoods.
December 29, 2025 at 4:56 PM
*Insert tons of baby duck syndrome for apps, boohoo my obscure little no-brand device doesn't work, my games that install rootkits for anti-cheat into my OS don't work, pure ignorance, and actual FUD spread by paid Microsoft employees as "excuses" why they still need that garbage OS Windows*
What are the specific pain points that prevent you from switching to Linux or have forced you back to Windows? Trying to collect as many as possible. Specific productivity software, etc.
Living with Windows has always been a calculus of how useful it is professionally vs. the amount of unbearable shit you gotta disable with a script and I think we reached a tipping point where it’s majority unbearable shit.
December 29, 2025 at 11:57 AM
Godot. You're welcome.
game development is easier on windows, unfortunately. though unity and unreal both have linux support, each has its own hoops to jump through. i’m pretty tech savvy to a point, but it’s just easier for me personally to do everything on windows.
December 28, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Look up "baby duck syndrome". I cannot fathom anyone using Photoshop but only because it's so unfamiliar to me. You've just imprinted on other, expensive, non-Free software and are just hating on Gimp for no reason.

Stop this.
GIMP is one of the greatest examples of something many Linux people is “fine” and everyone else being like what the fuck are you talking about. bsky.app/profile/yeho...
gimp sucks so fucking bad man. like its been just as bad as the first time i used it 20 years ago. the ui, the workflow, the name, the mascot is all ass. the closest anyone got to making it better was ridiculed into shutting down their attempt
December 28, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Learn how to use Free as in Freedom, legal alternative solutions instead. TONS of professionals use them and they are just as good or better than the expensive software you're trying to steal.

Wish these companies could better defend against piracy so people would turn to Free software.
Im a student learning gamedev.Torrents of linux software are nearly non existant. I need Adobe Substance and Houdini. Using a VM or dual booting is too slow. Pirating on Windows is very straightforward. Im not sure about Unreal, but on Unity Linux crashes sometimes no matter what fix you try.

If you use Firefox and dislike their move toward AI:

DO NOT go to a buggy, problematic Chromium-based browser no matter how attractive it seems. Use a Firefox fork that does not include AI or any other Mozilla crapware, like Zen or LibreWolf (for desktop) or Waterfox (Android).
December 28, 2025 at 7:36 PM
Valve ending production of the least expensive Steam Deck is laughable. "More space which you could add optionally anyway and a pointless buzzword (OLED) display that doesn't improve things that much for $150 more!"

The cheaper the hardware, the more people buy. Is this so hard to understand?
December 24, 2025 at 1:51 PM
Is Pong a fighting game? That's all I had when I was growing up.
Which 4 Fighting Games mattered the most to YOU growing up?

I'll start!

1. Mortal Kombat
2. Street Fighter II
3. Marvel vs Capcom 2
4. Primal Rage
December 18, 2025 at 4:00 PM
Nope. The other way around, though, yes, many, many times.
Do you ever just give up trying to do something in Linux and do it in Windows instead?
December 18, 2025 at 7:28 AM
Use a Firefox fork instead. Disabling updates will only harm you because actual vital security updates for the browser won't be installed and will put you at risk. I know you don't want the AI update, but that's not all that gets updated.

Use LibreWolf or Zen instead and keep the updates.
Opt-out next year?

I guess its time to disable the firefox auto update service, because I am opting out of using garbage today.

Nobody wants AI. Everybody wants ad blockers. Fire the executive who told you otherwise.
December 18, 2025 at 6:06 AM
Then I choose to use a fork of your browser that does not include any AI trash in the first place. Just like you should have made a choice to not infect your browser with this flash in the pan, useless, copyright-infringing, power-sucking, inaccurate pseudo-technology.

Reconsider.
Exactly. We know not everyone wants AI, which is why our approach is different. Firefox is not becoming an AI browser. Features are optional, clearly labeled, and fully under your control with a total opt-out coming early next year. It won't please everyone but we believe you deserve choice.
Look, I get that it's frustrating to see @firefox.com make an announcement this tone-deaf, but let's be clear: the same announcement makes it clear that their AI features will be clearly-labelled and can be turned off, which is more than we'll get from Chrome or any of its offspring (Brave, et. al.)
December 18, 2025 at 6:03 AM
People who care about security and not running ancient, unsupported software full of unpatched vulnerabilities.

AI is trash and the solution is modern software with no AI, not ancient software that attracts malware.
WordPerfect 5... 1989, I wrote the book in the 2000's. Whoever said you have to use the latest version of god damn anything in your creative work? Office 2003 is like £10 on ebay, I'm sure you could find an ISO if you've no optical drive.

You're making excuses to justify using genAI. Stop it.
December 18, 2025 at 5:00 AM
Depends on your desktop. e.g. KDE Plasma: Mouse & Touchpad -> Scrolling -> Hold down middle button and move mouse to scroll

Linux caters to you by offering different solutions. Complaining that one solution doesn't have it is like complaining an automatic car doesn't have a gearshift/clutch.
December 17, 2025 at 1:38 AM
As long as someone uses Linux, they are doing it right. Distro and package manager/distribution system/whatever does not matter.
Exactly! I agree with the sentiment of wishing others would embrace that concept, The Linux community has unfortunately become notorious for pushing people away due to talking down to say, people who use *insert distro" or "insert packaging format"
December 15, 2025 at 5:17 AM
No one is going to call someone stupid if they make an honest and earnest attempt to understand Linux and what it does. When someone expects Linux to be a 100% Windows clone, or worse, lie or exaggerate about some perceived slight, that's when they get called out.
i believe people when they say linux has gotten better in the last few years. what i'm skeptical of is that linux Guys have improved. i will not use an OS where i'm at high risk of someone calling me stupid for not liking some aspect of the experience. i must be allowed to hate the computer
December 15, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Good lord, lie much? EVERYONE uses Blender and there are tons of other art and technical tools to use. Fuck off, Microsoft paid shill.
Yeah Linux is not good for game development because of lack of support for important tools in the work flow. Mainly just texturing though. But most game studios don't use blender either. Better for systems programmers and web developers
December 15, 2025 at 1:17 AM
#Bluesky and other sites are going to have to do something about a massive, directed anti-Linux campaign that spreads lies and FUD about the OS, and is likely headed by Microsoft and/or similar organizations.

Report all anti-Linux rants as misleading posts and make BSky do something.
December 14, 2025 at 4:21 PM
Open package installer. It looks like an app store. Easy to use, friendly, simple.

Install Steam.

Click the Steam icon.

Install game. Click Run.

IF THIS ISN'T EASY THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT BE USING A DAMN COMPUTER.

Of course, you're just a troll paid by Microsoft to spread FUD. Leave.
"Your games will run fine on Linux you just need to do X A and Y first"

I just need to click the Desktop icon on Windows and that's why I'm probably never going to bother with Linux
December 14, 2025 at 4:16 PM
You mean like the hours Windows takes to do any update? Or troubleshooting whatever BS Microsoft created on their flimsy-ass MS-DOS derivative this week?

Linux just works. I dob't spend any time fixing it.

Paid shills leave.
Ah yes, the free* operating system.

*if your time has no value
December 14, 2025 at 4:07 PM
No, it's pushed back by paid Microsoft shills like you lying about trash. There's no excuse to stay with Windows or Mac any more. None.
global adoption of linux gets pushed back by 6 years every time a Linux Guy starts talking at me like max headroom
December 14, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Love these paid Microsoft shills (they have to be, right?) who somehow decide that the best thing for them is a 100% no-go because of one single damn game.

Ridiculous. It's like refusing to move to a better area and better job because the local stores don't have your favorite ice cream.
Here's the thing about switching to Linux
I have THOUSANDS of steam games
Sure a lot of those might be from bundles or games I tried once and decided I didn't like

But if even one game I ACTUALLY care about is not seamless and performant with my OS I'm not using that OS
December 14, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Exactly why do all these social media sites assume you want videos/GIFs to automatically play by default? What a laughably terrible default. Talking to you too, #bluesky.
