Last October 7th, I wrote about an imaginary antisemitism alert warning that wouldn’t stop buzzing. As we mark two years since the Hamas terror attacks, it sadly continues with relentless, open antisemitism manifesting in ways I never thought possible in Canada.

Reflecting on October 7th: The Antisemitism Red Alert Warning Won’t Stop Buzzing - Michael Geist
Late on Friday, October 6, 2023, I was dozing after a family Sabbath dinner meal when I was suddenly awoken by the continuous buzzing of the Tzofar red alert app on my phone and watch. I had installed...

“I observe that the most vulnerable includes not only the homeless but also the elderly person and the child who want to use a sidewalk or a city park without tiptoeing through used needles and human faeces...”

This should be obvious but somehow is not.

Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

I want to visit a friend in East York and it will take a minimum of an hour and fifteen minutes to get there. (I live North of Bloor, but not in the suburbs!) Transit in this city is so bad! No wonder everyone drives. #TO

The Israeli government is behaving in a way that is deserving of tons of very harsh criticism, and also that fact seems to have provided a permission structure for a lot of people to be a lot more vocally antisemitic in ways that have nothing directly to do with the state of Israel at all.
