In a democracy, the press – reporters – are the representatives of We, the People. That’s why our nation’s Founders protected the press in the First Amendment. When Trump attacks reporters, calling them “Piggy“ and threatening their networks, he is really attacking you and me.

I’m okay with that.
We should reboot journalism completely. Start from scratch. They should get those old timey hats and a pencil and figure it out from there

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

$4200 per year is 100 per week for 42 weeks, which would still be 10 weeks short, in addition to still being an economic miracle with current prices.
What the fuck?

He ends his tweet with "stop smoking crack."

Am I a better journalist than her? Yes. Would I also be very bad at running CBS News? Yes. Because like Bari I have zero experience running an operation of that size, or TV of any kind, and I am similarly stupid.

as tempting as it is to blame this on garland personally, I think a lot of it was an ingrained, institutionally cautious culure at doj. it was (before january 2025) a building full of careful, by-the-book people
The selection of Garland as AG and his failure to act was about ten bajillion times more consequential than any campaign strategy decision

Some, perhaps much, of this I say is a direct result of news organizations closing foreign offices. Hence they don’t have any staff at the ready to report on regular people or other context in foreign countries. The few remaining reporters, understandably, stick to what they can see themselves.
Not seeing much about the massive anti-Trump pro-Gaza protests are we? Funny, that.

Yesterday, agents stopped a state lawmaker and *pointed a gun at him*

They had body-cams -- that weren't on

There is no way to overstate how much decades of habit, audience demand, and managerial pressure have trained reporters to only consider politics as a matter of electoral sports.
There's just no way to exaggerate how cooked your brain has to be to think like this. Trump is an unprecedented, law-breaking, norm-breaking, increasingly demented maniac who is destroying this country's basic institutions. Like, right now! As we speak!

But media elites find that boring.
