It's such a nice feeling when I wake up in the middle of the night and discover both cats have curled up beside me. 😻

There should be a sports league where every team is named after a cryptid. Like the "Charleston Chupacabras" or the "Des Moines Death Worms".

A long Edgar Cayce quote (reading 906-3), but a good one:

"For though the entity little understands as yet, if there is the intense study of how MIND is indeed the builder, it will see that what is held in the act of mental vision becomes a reality in the material experience.

A short 🧵: one astounding thing I learned while researching TIGERS BETWEEN EMPIRES was the existence of the Willow Palisade, a 700-km wall made of interlocking trees, an extension of the Great Wall planted in NE China in the 17th century. This map shows approx. Amur tiger range in 1850. 1/9

Initial thoughts on the movie "Angel's Egg":

Weird. Good. Depressing. Weird. In that order.

I was not that excited to read about lighthouses, but it took a turn into a kerfuffle that was very interesting and relevant.

What are users for?
Dave Winer, OG blogger, podcaster, developed first apps in many categories. Old enough to know better. It's even worse than it appears.

This is awesome news! I first became aware of Wong Kar-Wai after watching "In the Mood for Love". It was an unforgettable experience. The Criterion Channel will be airing his 30-episode TV show, which was a massive hit in China.

"Death of the Silver Surfer" was underwhelming to the max. I think I'm done buying Marvel comics.

On the bright side, "Conan: Scourge of the Serpent" from @comicstitan.bsky.social has been brilliant through 2 issues.

In this year's college basketball preview, there were 47 pages about men's basketball and not a single one about women's!
An observation:

Sunday's issue of the Chicago Tribune had an insert previewing the college basketball season. It had 44 pages for men's basketball and 3 pages for women's basketball.

I am surprised every Halloween at how delicious Three Musketeers are. It's a very underrated candy bar.

for Halloween, permit me to offer a completely true tale of abject horror.

Social anxiety horror, that is.

I've been to several interesting presentations over the past few weeks. Just for fun, I'm creating this thread of some of the books recommended during those talks. Links go to @bookshop.org.

I would love to read all of these, but not sure I have the time!

I know nothing about this movie, but I have seen some previews for it, and it looks weird and beautiful and fascinating and I cannot wait to see it.

Come for the turnip lanterns, stay for the etymology lesson!

"The druids, the ancient Celtic priests, would light a new bonfire, into which the bones of the animal sacrifices would be tossed (this “bone-fire” gives us our modern word 'bonfire')."

This is one of my favorite quotes from the Edgar Cayce readings:

"In DOING comes understanding."
Reading 1719-1

Simple and profound. I'm still learning new ways I can apply this in my everyday life.
