My awesome student, Biana Qiu, will lead a poster presentation on our research Monday at #ESA2025. Long-term data from Konza Prairie LTER. We use a new method to identify different classifications for populations that persist or blink in and out of disturbed systems over time. Check it out!

The @academicdatasci.bsky.social Leadership Summit was a great way to meet and discuss the future of university Data Science programs, from 2-year to bachelors, to grad degrees. I came home with lots of new ideas and new connections.
✨ Day 2 of the Data Science and AI Leadership Summit is off to a great start! 🎉 Our panel of experts is discussing industry perspectives on workforce needs in the age of AI, and how universities can prepare graduates for success.

Exclusive: Over the years, Elon Musk and his businesses have received at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies and tax credits, often at critical moments, a Post analysis has found, helping seed the growth that has made him the world’s richest person.

Please call and write to your congresspeople to emphasize the importance of NSF to basic science, education, and businesses. Here's a link to a handy document you can use to look up NSF dollars and impact in your state!

Creativity is the antithesis of destruction. Took an hour this week to paint something new at our local arts center with other amateur painters and felt a little better about my corner of the world. I recently visited a warmer state and met this roadrunner that lives on my friend's windowsill.

I really liked this idea of using a histogram as a legend in a choropleth map (since land isn't unemployed; people are), so I made a little guide to doing it with #rstats, {ggplot2}, and {patchwork}

I didn't grow up with a lot of money. I didn't know anyone who was a scientist. I relied on federal pell grants, federal loans, and my own jobs to pay my way through college. Some scholarships supported me as a low-income student, some as a woman in science, and others for good grades.

I owe so much of my career and scientific journey to the National Science Foundation. It's really hard to watch the dismantling of our government structure and support for cutting edge science, and for training and supporting the folks that will become the scientists of the future.

I'm frustrated and sad to learn that the NSF Program Officers that I work most closely with were fired yesterday. These people are passionate about ensuring that great science is being funded and that taxpayer dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently.
