What it’s like being married to a writer… me, to my wife, whose checking to see if dog hair fell into her coffee because tis shed season. “How bad?”

My wife: “Not as bad as the shadows claim.”

Me: “damn, Gandalf”

What makes Doctor Who so creepy is that it takes ordinary moments where you feel creeped out, like being in a dimly lit basement full of mannequins and says “yeah, you should be afraid of this actually, it’s aliens”

Someone please help me explain to my dog that one- these are cauliflower wings not chicken wings and two- they’re covered in buffalo sauce bud, you can’t have any.

The last months had been hard, drafting wise, between getting sick and travel and the end of the semester- but I’ve been doing what I can when I can, and my wife pointed out to me this morning that, at 800 words a day, I’m already 1/3 through this draft. I needed that reminder today.

So, after being sick for two weeks, I’m finally drafting again. I’m about the end of act 1 with about 35k written (it’s overwritten I know it but that’s a draft 2 problem). I’m now also completely off outline for several chapters, so this is fun haha

I have reached the age and stage of friendship that the most heated debate in the group chat right now is which of us is which Golden Girl. And of course Blanche is stirring the pot on purpose.

Okay! Mid-February update! My draft is now over 20k, I’m pretty consistently meeting my daily writing goals (800 words) and I’m on track to finish this draft by the beginning of May. Of course, it turns out I’m an overwriter, so we’ll see how that shakes out lol

I don’t think I’m being controversial with this opinion but: if you have a breakfast menu that doesn’t go all day, the cut off should be 1pm, not 10am.

It’s been about a week, and I’ve managed to hit 800 most days- often more. I had 1 day with 600ish and 1 day with 0. I’m still coming in over “par”. Not. Too. Shabby.

No, I don't need a bloody copilot for this document, thank you.

Writing is, in no small part, a tool for thinking. If you outsource that element to a machine that cannot think, you shouldn't be surprised if, at the end of the process, neither you nor your reader are any the wiser.

I have officially moved from “outlining” to “drafting”. I’ve set myself a minimum word goal of 800 per day, which I’ve met for the past 3 days. It’s slow, and it’s not nano, but I can usually hit in in a sprint on days when I’m busier, which was the point.

Since I do a lot of research into diy - thrift flipping, home remodeling, and cooking from scratch - I’m getting a lot of videos now on how to break down large Costco cuts and the benefits of buying a whole cow…and ngl I’m tempted.

At the emergency vet with our dog because he sprained his tail from wagging it too much while at daycare today. Puppy’s high and a kite and everyone’s best friend.

How do I know my wife loves me? She made me risotto. On a *whim*

I’m a huge fan of little and big rewards. When I’m ready to start drafting I’ll get myself something small (under $5). Work count and draft milestones will increase in value slowly, and when I finish my book, I’m getting my next tattoo #weeknightwriters
Q5: How will you celebrate hitting milestones/achieving goals? #WeeknightWriters

I’m have a word count excel workbook from, like, 2012 that I still use, and my wife to keep me honest, lol. #weeknightwriters
Q4: How will you track your progress? Feel free to share tracking systems for both writing goals and non-writing goals! #WeeknightWriters

I’ve been keeping a bulletjournal to help keep me organized, and to take it in slow chunks to not get overwhelmed. #weeknightwriters
Q3: What strategies will you use to achieve your goals this year? #WeeknightWriters

I’d like to declutter our house by summer, and maybe restart my garden. #weeknightwriters
Q2: What are your non-writing goals for this year? #WeeknightWriters

My goal is to complete my first full draft! #weeknightwriters

Just finished baking all my Christmas cookies and wrapping all the presents. I am so tired, but now I have a full tin of leftover gingersnaps, so win!

So, I made it to the last chapter and realized that my chapter outlines get shorter and shorter from chapter 15 on, lol. Oops! But that’s a tomorrow problem now haha

So, tomorrow marks a week, and I…did it? I started with 5, I’m at 19, but the last few need some revision. Still- I’m much further than I was last week!
#queerwriters Monday: Goals Day!

I’m working on my detailed outline, so my goal is to hit 2 chapters a day- 14 this week! That’ll set me up good to finish next week 😊

Nothing summons a migraine quite like setting a project goal when you also have grading to do. 🙄
