Depending on species, cicada nymphs (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) can spend anywhere from one to seventeen years feeding on tree roots underground. Eventually they emerge, climb some distance up trees or other objects, and molt into adults so males can serenade females. Palmyra Michigan, 11 Aug 2017.

It's way too easy to vent here! I try not to. Instead, I make an effort post things that inspire or bring joy. But sometimes a rant slips out. And then I delete it.

Turns out these old mittens made from upcycled wool sweaters are warmer than any of the tech gear we have

First seedlings of the year for next season’s garden. This season I opted for the Silver Plate Eucalyptus strain rather than the Silver Dollar strain that I grew last year. I’m planting some yarrow today and I have some lavender and Echinacea cold stratifying that will soon follow. #gardening

If two undiagnosed neurodiverse individuals had children, how would they know if their offspring were neurodiverse? Perhaps they would simply perceive them as sensitive, quirky, and fun. Just like their obviously awesome parents.

We've been with the same big heating oil company for years, on auto-delivery, but somehow they failed to show up over the past few weeks and we ran out of fuel. Called twice for an emergency delivery. Sorry, they said, they’re backed up. Two days of cold ... #newengland #winter

Don't miss this from @nellscovell.bsky.social about Rob Reiner. One of the best reminiscences I've read & one that makes it clear what a uniquely important gift to comedy he was. (I also knew him a little re: politics & there too, he was a gift and a mensch.) www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/how...

It’s rare for a short video to unfold like a calm book. This is less than a minute long, yet shows every step the process. Beautifully done.

"Why are curators not as politically active in the public sphere as artists have been since the dawn of time? What kind of privilege does the curatorial field grant that allows many curators to be politically inactive at best, and complicit at worst?" - Erika Hirugami
The Cruelty of American Curatorial Silence
Many of my fellow curators, especially at institutions, have failed to speak out against fascism. What is it about being a curator that offers a free pass for political silence?
