You can’t complain about your neighbour playing that “reggie” too loud unless you’ve first voted in this. You have just a few hours left to vote.

Day 11
Moonchild Sanelly, “Yebo Teacher” (2021)

The one that made me a fan. A song about “putting the work in, not just in school but in life”. Sung in a mixture of isiXhosa and English.

Day 10
Future Children, ‘A Disorganized Body’ (2025)

Soundtrack by US duo to a short film about the strange case of a 19th century Frenchwoman who claimed to be only skin & bones. The music varies wildly in style, from lyrical pop to ghostly synth jams overlaid with operatic female voice.

Day 10
Wau Wau Collectif, “Salamaleikoum” (2021)

A Swedish-Senegalese collaborative project. You can read about in the info section at the Youtube link below. I love the hazy warmth and simplicity of this song.

Day 9
Andrew Spackman, ‘Milton Keynes Shopping Trip’ (2024)

Excoriating noise featuring saxophone, keys and beats (by turn, skittish and thunderous), maybe some guitar too? Rings the changes with these different elements in a very satisfying way. Not an easy listen but worth the effort.

Right, it's Sunday afternoon and therefore time for me to be completely hypocritical again and count down a UK Top 40 singles chart from a year past. This week we're going back 34 years to the chart week ending 9 November 1991. Hold onto that washing machine!

Day 9
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, “Dodonpa” (2021)

Not sure if this is sung in Japanese or is simply a few phonemes that sound good when strung together. A total banger either way. Great, sympathetic visuals too.

Day 8
Surman + Krog, ‘Electric Element’ (2025)
As I was at Jonny T’s groovy fayre earlier, today seems a good day to finally give this Trunk Records LP a spin. Processed voice & bass clarinets + keys/electronics. Recorded in 2013 but unreleased til now. Bought new in Hackney, end of August

Day 8
Cour de Récré, “Désolé je ne fume pas” (2021)

Self-styled ‘ultra synth pop’ act from Toulouse (tho’ actually based all over and with a fluid membership). On Elefant Records in ‘21 but they’ve just released a fab new single on musique.exe

Young Punctum reaches May 1977, and were I to have known it - I sort of knew it at the time but failed to grasp it fully - that month turned out to be the clear highlight of my younger life:

Day 7
Oceanographer, ‘Regen’ (2025)

Shimmering electronics from this Springfield, MO based producer. Soft pulses supporting bright tone-splashes and ambient wash. I paid a whole $1 for the digital album back in March.

Day 7
Sun-El Musician ft. Bholoja, “Esibayeni” (2021)

South African genius Sun-El’s songs are typically 4-to-the-floor, so I’ve gone with this hypnotic track in 6/8. Bholoja is from eSwatini and the angry Siswati lyrics are, I gather, pretty personal youtu.be/JRnoUQycMrc

Charles Wuorinen, ‘Time’s Encomium for synthesized & processed synthesized sound’

Natalia Lafourcade, “Alfonsina y el mar”

Into 2021. Another song in Spanish but the performer’s from Mexico, and it’s a beautiful cover of a famous zamba from Argentina (you can read a bit of the background here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfonsi...)
