Woke up this morning to thinking about a review I got for Machines of Consent. It included the line, after giving me a skewering, that it was clear I had spent at least a year working on it.

You see, the thing about being trans is so many times other people will spot the signs you’re in pain before you do. This is often the result of you being brought up to put everyone else’s needs before yours. And it takes extra effort to de-program when you finally shed the expectations of others.

I have never met anyone who made a concious choice to cut out some of their family, and subsequently regretted it.
Plus, usually this is done with clear boundaries; stop being racist or transphobic or just plain hurtful. If they can't manage that; well, they have basically cut themselves off.
