I'm a weird juxtaposition in many ways, like a moose in the south.

Hack musician. Former right wing/libertarian nutjob-pushed far left by the new brand of right wingers.

Sports teams: GT; THFC; FC Bayern

Blocking cryptos, bots, right wing followers
Anyone else spending less these days?

Since I'm trying to avoid Amazon and Walmart I'm re-thinking every purchase and deciding more often than not that I don't need it. I'm sure this is great for the economy.

I don't want to learn French, but this does tempt me
Alrighty.. so most Canadian schools teach boring ol’ French. But wanna talk like a real Québécois? Swear, sass, and poutine included. There’s an app for that.

The President of the United States of America posted this 15 minutes before the announcement of the tariff pause. This would be a straightforwardly criminal message, were the rule of law currently operational in the usual way, for those with insider knowledge of major market shifting policy news

I wonder what that "Rich Men North of Richmond" singer thinks of what's going on in DC these days.

I grew up fundamentalist Christian where we were taught that absolute truth exists and is important.

But that same crowd has now embraced a movement which doesn't believe in truth at all. The current MAGA strategy is pure confusion and deceit.

It's terrible for the nation and for Christianity.

I didn't know which is the best part of this thread: burning the Nazi flags or gardening tips involving peeing on terrible books
In the US city of Cincinnati in Ohio, armed Nazis decided to hang flags over an overpass, they were promptly removed by locals who chased them away and burned the Nazi flags. The police tried to protect the Nazis.

DOGE appears to be the newest iteration of the secret police. Dictatorial regimes almost always have an organization like this.

So far this one appears to be directly focused on government employees, but I'm afraid it won't end there

I was prepared for angry Trump taking retribution on anyone who opposed him before.

I didn't see the billionaire coup coming. The technofascists make the robber barons look like amateurs.

This is infuriating. People are doing what the US government people have told them to do, but they're being arrested.

I can't say this on my named account:

My younger (adult) child is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. They generally haven't followed politics in depth, but they're starting to now. Why? Because they're very, very concerned for their safety and that of their friends.

Can't blame em.

I just had a fantastic conversation with a mostly Trump supporting co-worker. We left the conversation with him saying that he appreciated having a real conversation with a liberal. This isn't the first time I've heard this.

Fellow liberals: we have to figure out how to have better conversations

I've been trying to bury my head on the sand, but it isn't working. I woke up several times last night thinking about the future and just how bad things are probably going to get in our country and in the world.

I'm as much sad as I am scared. And I'm definitely mad.

Today's evangelical movement in the US is a direct descendent of the Puritans. And now I understand why they weren't welcome in England.

I know it's out of fashion, but some days call for lighting a pipe, thinking critically, and putting virtual pen to paper.

If the criminal cases against Donald Trump are dismissed or put on hold because he won an election, then there is a new, clear path for criminals in our country.

Perform big enough crimes and tell big enough lies to get elected, and none of it matters.

Am I honestly looking at castles for sale in random European countries and thinking "if several of my friends went in together..."?

Yes. Yes I am. Let's form a commune, as long as there's a place for the band I'm good.

I'm so pessimistic about our country right now that I'm numb. I just can't find the energy for outage or fighting, and I'm not sure there's any point or anything I could do.

It makes me so sad and angry

My son is about to graduate from college, and with his degree he could probably find a job in another country.

I'm trying to persuade him to do that. He points out that things weren't as bad as they could've been last time, so maybe they won't be horrible this time.

I hope he's right
