Intro post: I’m Steve, an enterprise editor for @theathletic.bsky.social, where I get to work with some of the best writers in the business on some of their best stories. It’s a decent gig. Before that I covered some fairly good Seahawks teams. I live in the PNW with my wife and two kids under 4.

Two sick kids at home today, so I decided to bring out the big guns and show them The Great Muppet Caper. It was an excellent parenting decision.

This is making me queasy.
The Trail Blazers' efforts to secure $600 million in public funding for arena renovations seen as essential to keeping the team in Portland have hit a snag.

After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting.

But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:

Very little if anything seems to have changed on the ground. ICE is still out there terrorizing neighborhoods and trying to disappear neighbors. None of us on the ground are buying this bullshit. We will keep organizing and fighting.
The intense fallout from the killing of Alex Pretti has forced President Trump to publicly change course in Minneapolis.
