Zelensky was never going to back down to a thug like trump. He didn’t back down to Putin. trump isn’t so good at reading people, all he can do is try and stand over people like the bully he is and the bully his father taught him to be.

Everyone understands that this is not in line with the American opinion. This is not the US. It's just that the US is now under external control from russia (china, from dictatorships in general, probably)
