Does UK indie guitar music still exist? Listening to Bizarro by the Wedding Present and fondly remembering (or imagining) a time when everyone had guitars that sounded like this

Once again reminding folks that the ethical replacement to using Spotify isn’t another streaming platform; it’s buying music from artists when you’re in the financial position to do so and pirating them when you’re unable to do so. Or simply ask an artist for the files, like actually.

“There’s no good music in the charts today” boomers may wish to consider how their Spotify subscription directly contributes to kicking the ladder away so the many amazing small bands can’t progress.

Pale Saints - Comforts of Madness

Such a great, confident record. Great cover as well.

I know people show a lot of love for the second album but, for me, it’s a much weaker album, barring a couple of standout songs.

So Oasis reunion shows. Going soon, saw the playlist for Cardiff, I’m allowed to be disappointed, right?

If I ruled the world…

In the bin: Hello, Roll with it, Whatever, Wonderwall, Cast no shadow

In the set: Up in the Sky; I hope I think I know; Girl in the dirty shirt; Lyla; Columbia

When Australian reporters are being shot at by US officials - for merely doing their jobs - then maybe it's time for the IOC and FIFA to urgently review their decisions to hand the Olympics and one third of the World Cup to Trumpsville.

What album are you looking forward to?

For me, it’s The New Eves.

Coming in August 💥

Birthing by Swans is excellent. Absolutely loving it.

Was slightly underwhelmed by the last two albums, but Birthing is very good.

Despite being 8 days long it never overstays its welcome and is pretty much on repeat here.

I'm old enough to remember when actual random children were receiving threats from actual grown-up lawyers demanding $10s-of-thousands for downloading a low-quality torrent rip of a pop song on their mum's PC, and politicians didn't give a solitary chubby shite.
“I agree with Nick.”

Kill the industry, you say? That sounds tough for that industry. Which industry was that again?

Oh. The stealing industry? Maybe killing that industry wouldn’t be such a bad thing? Considering it’s kind of a bad industry. Unlike the other one, which it’s currently killing.

The guitar sound on The Wedding Present’s Bizarro album was peak culture.

Peak music.
Peak everything.

We just haven’t caught up yet.

Been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd recently. Loving the latest mix of Live in Pompei.

My question is this: Is Dark Side of the Moon really all that?

I know you are supposed to like it. Unquestioningly. Reverently. But is it enjoyable?

Always struggled with it.

UK creatives. If you write, make music, draw, paint etc you need to complete the AI and copyright consultation today.

The gov wants to let AI tech companies steal your work and ignore copyright so that they can profit while you get nothing.

Don’t let that happen.

Copyright and Artificial Intelligence
This consultation seeks views on how the government can ensure the UK’s legal framework for AI and copyright supports the UK creative industries and AI sector together.

Every major UK newspaper - left, right, broadsheet, tabloid - is running a front page campaign against copyright carveouts for AI training.

I can't remember the last time any political cause had such broad support, let alone one so anti-big tech and so economically consequential.

Artists release silent album in protest at AI copyright proposals. Under a new UK government law proposal artists would have to actively opt out of allowing their music/voices to be used at will by AI companies. Surely it should be opt in. Thoughts?
