Part of me would be delighted to see a hologram of Isaac Asimov pop up and reveal that he has retroactively become the richest man in the galaxy by suing Musk for IP theft.
Good news everybody: Grokipedia will contain all knowledge about the universe and will be distributed periodically throughout the solar system

And if so inclined you can always thank The Sea and Cake for bringing it into this century.

I took a break from the usual fantasy novels to read Judy Blume's Blubber in elementary school to see what all the girls were reading, and it was *revelatory*.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I'm not an expert, but does this not seem very New York Times Style section-y?

So we've got *that* in common.
Sagappa Joe, the mascot of Sagami Women’s University, is a kappa who lives in the pond in the school garden, despite not being able to swim. He is renowned for his shapely buttocks.

I really liked Bryan Magee's "The Great Philosophers," which is an accessible overview and beginner reference work. And widely available.
OK people this is not a drill - my cousin has expressed an interest in philosophy, she needs a book recommendation. What's a good thing to read if you have no philosophy background?

I've abandoned almost all of my language policing stuff over the years, but every time I see 'archeology' I feel like something's being stolen from me.

🧵David Kurtz is doing a tremendous service with Morning Memo in 2025, and today's is an excellent example. #tpm
Amid reports that newly appointed USA Lindsey Halligan will seek to indict James Comey on bogus charges of lying to Congress after her predecessor declined to, it’s a good time to do a reset ahead of the wave of Trump-driven political prosecutions.

Another in a series of simple observations that comes close to breaking me:

"It would take only 4 GOP Senators, or 6 to 7 Representatives, to save the country."
Some numbers:

-Most Americans are women.

-Via the Census, about 60 million Americans are in a household that includes a daughter.

-Every American, or human being, should be appalled and disgusted by this.

It would take only 4 GOP Senators, or 6 to 7 Representatives, to save the country.
Exclusive: Jeffrey Epstein’s estate has given Congress a copy of the 2003 birthday book, including the letter with Trump’s signature that he has said doesn’t exist.
