One of my last memories of John was him being handed a copy of Byron's works (by someone well-meaning, in fairness) to keep him occupied when he was in hospital. Our eyes met. He made a face. I nodded. A tacit agreement to find him something, anything, better from the hospital shop donation shelf.

A professor of literature apparently agrees with me on this, so let's just all assume that I will be 100% right about all this kind of judgemental blustering from now on.
I have never met a man obsessed with Byron that has escaped being a raging wanker.

Suspending Doctors Without Borders is definitely a thing healthy countries do
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

Signalling the readiness of dinner (risotto) to my partner by impudently bellowing "HOT RICE IS NIGH!" up the stairs.

Can you tell I'm hormonal, have had wine, am on deadline, am financially precarious despite having had no real Christmas to speak of, and have family "visiting"?
My usual depressive grief lethargy has turned into Valkyrian rage.

And I like almost everyone involved in the project. But I... Left that film feeling utterly bored. Which is saying something given how easily emotional I get, currently, for various reasons.

Imagine having the audacity to (poorly) rewrite the genius origin story of all science fiction to include utterly pedestrian dialogue, painfully contrived exposition, zero nuance, some snappily dressed female characters and a syphillitic uncle, and bookend it with a quote by fucking Byron
Ew.

I watched Frankenstein last night.

I don't know why, but... I didn't like it.

Does anyone know if Hugh Fraser moved here from Twitter? I remember he spoke kindly to me once, although he probably wouldn't remember. I thought of him today. I do hope he's well.

Why is it that one is always obliged, at Christmas/NY, to subscribe to some horrendously disorganised person's 23-step plan rather than your, simple, 2-step plan, because they want to look important and good? Why is that?

Despite frequent remonstrations from digital archivists, Persephone never accepted that she could not photocopy a whole book in one go.
