Amirhadi Anvari, "36,500 deaths in context: How Iran’s toll compares with wars and crackdowns" www.iranintl.com/en/202601277...

Over 48 hours, about 40,000 were killed by the Iranian regime. That's roughly the number of civilians killed in Gaza during two years of fighting. Where is the Left now?
36,500 deaths in context: How Iran’s toll compares with wars and crackdowns
The killing of 36,500 people in just two days represents a scale of violence without precedent in the history of repression under the Islamic Republic – and one that stands out even when compared with...

S.R. is the last remaining reporter of the BBC Moscow bureau. Several times he emphasizes that what keeps him reporting is his fascination and love with Russia. Perhaps that makes him such a professional.

Not just helpful but necessary to understand what "war economy" means for Russia, Europe, and the extension of the war beyond Ukraine into Europe. One important aspect: Several 100,000s of brutalized RU soldiers cannot be re-integrated into RU society. So they need to be deployed elsewhere.

@tinydoctor.bsky.social Saw your doctoromed.wordpress.com/2026/02/10/m... Quite a variety: Leonora Carrington, Hannah Höch, Hilma af Klint. Didn't know either of those three before.

This Carrington picture with its warm background, the dark figures in front and the corpse on the floor touches me.

What Russia does in Ukraine is #Kolodomor – the attempted extermination by cold.

This is how war sounds like. This sound will be heard across Europe if Russia isn't stopped in its barbaric war.
Multiple explosions were heard in Russia's Belgorod this morning. A strike on the Luch thermal power plant reportedly knocked out power across the city and nearby villages.

Okay wait. So we're staying at my mother's HS best friends house down here. She is also 70. She lives with a man that she HATES. She has liquor and snacks hidden all over the house. And things are hidden in places that you only find if you do chores. I am SCREAMING 😭

Family as Omertà.

When speaking put against Omertà, you know you could be wrong. But the others cannot fathom that they might be wrong.

Liest man über das sozialistische Geschwurbel hinweg, findet man eine gar nicht mal so unzutreffende Charakterisierung von Sahra Wagenknecht und BSW.

Without much evidence in support, I'd claim that everyone is part of an Omertà. Not merely the one *of* a group but the one that actually *is* this group, that makes this group. Omertà is not one "of" a family, society, culture, but actually *is* this family, society, culture.

Familiy Omertà. Family as Omertà.

It is not just that people do much to stay inside the Omertà and thus: the family. It is not just that overtly displaying the Omertà is is avoided because of the risk of falling outside the family.

The only thing that astonishes me about Epstein is that even Noam Chomsky met with him. What is Amy Goodman from
@democracynow.org going to do about it? Keep or disavow her favourite elder lefttist interview partner?

Your fears of #AI stem from the 1966 book "Colossus" by Dennis Feltham Jones, made into the movie "Colossus: The Forbin Project" in 1972. That is: The framing of AI as doomsday devices stems from a time of analogue computers in a Cold War Setting. Keep that in mind when you're continuing to shiver.

Mafia organisations are not "families" because they instill and live by Omertà, they have Omertà because they are family-like.

You break the Omertà, and you're banned from the family. It's a basic principle in the dynamics of every natural family.

The only legitimate reasons to oppose AI are ethical ones. AI development is in the hands of a few companies because it requires vast sums of money […]
