“Rape culture is a society that condones male aggression both emotionally and physically towards women. It’s a society that has made sexual remarks, sexual touching, to rape itself, a norm for all members of the community & inflicts fear into the hearts of all women everywhere they may go.” #r4today
Why is the Iranian economy in such dire straits, Amol? Any assessment that brands it a “basket case” without mentioning decades of Western sanctions is intellectually dishonest.

But that’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from #r4today.

#r4today discusses Sajid Javid’s new memoir, without examining his record as “the first Muslim Home Secretary”: revoking the citizenship of a trafficked brown girl to burnish his populist credentials, or his contempt for benefit claimants despite his own impoverished upbringing.

Is this really about the best interests of the Labour Party, or of Keir Starmer? Or are we pretending there’s no difference?

The Prime Minister is, of course, a very busy man, which explains why he’s spent roughly one in every eight days abroad since taking office.

Is Justin Webb effectively confirming that housing asylum seekers in camps is performative? If it costs no less than hotels, then the Home Secretary is admitting her party is essentially engaging in performative cruelty purely to appease anti-immigration sentiment.

I was born and mostly raised in 1980s and 1990s Los Angeles and only ever experienced segregated schoolyards during my stints going to government primary school in London, where the white kids literally wouldn't speak to any of us Black and Brown kids
I lived in Europe for almost a decade. I promise you Black people don't count as USian UNTIL Europeans want a convenient vehicle for their racism.

- a Black Woman who spent 8 yrs answering "Where are you REALLY from?" with "My grandparents and their grandparents were ALSO born in the US."
Absolutely correct but they won't listen cause it's open season and they were anti-Black to begin with. This is like a free space on their racism BINGO card and I've seen people explicitly say they DGAF because they find the distinction meaningless. Which tracks.

It’s laughable to hear a minister from Starmer’s government claim they’ve been “unwavering in their principles”. An odd description for a PM who’s been kowtowing to a fascist U.S. administration for over a year. Right now, Labour’s main principle seems to be appeasing white supremacists.

The United States has no genuine “peace plan” for Gaza. What it has is a strategy to ensure that Israel’s apartheid & annihilatory violence continues unabated.

The longstanding impunity Isreal enjoys will not be broken by the same Western governments that have allowed it to flourish.

“We have a deep and long friendship with the U.S.,” says Yvette Cooper.

What she doesn’t say is that whiteness has been the basis of the geopolitical solidarity in the West and Trump’s fascist admin has decided that Britain ( and the EU) is no longer white enough for it.

Barack Obama lives rent free in Donald Trump’s head. Black success, at any level, is **always** triggering for racists.

Donald Trump's Greenland fixation goes beyond security, it’s about seizing mineral wealth which he sees as essential to sustaining US industrial hegemony. Last year, he strongarmed Ukraine into signing a deal to share profits from the future sale of its mineral and energy reserves.

Should Justin Webb be covering a story about the Daily Mail, a newspaper he writes for, regularly quotes uncritically and is likely to join as a columnist after leaving #r4Today, like his friend John Humphrys?

Charles Moore: “American greatness is a combination of soft power and hard power.”

Justin Webb: “And we’ve just seen the hard power, haven’t we, in Venezuela, in extraordinary terms.”

Of course—it wouldn’t be #r4today if someone wasn’t applauding American imperialist violence.

Donald Trump sympathises with Vladimir Putin mainly because of his business interests in Russia—not simply because he admires him or sees Russia as an “unwoke space”.

How can Justin Webb applaud Donald Trump “tackling” undocumented migration in the U.S. when Trump’s own businesses have a documented history of relying on that labour. These people are bloody hypocrites—happy with an immigrant “invasion” when it benefits them financially.

While America’s position as a global hegemon cannot be ignored, appeasing a bully only invites more abuse. Those who warned against Brexit must feel vindicated now, because we’re significantly more vulnerable outside the EU and unable to mount a meaningful boycott of the United States.
