Climate and sea-ice scientist at MET Norway.
Research interests include sea ice, oceans, and polar climate. Living in the far north and love gardening, hiking, paddling, and drinking coffee. Any opinions expressed are my own.
How has the Arctic sea-ice extent changed since 1979?
* large intraannual variabilities
* large interannual variabilities
* however, a clear long-term negative trend is evident for any day of the year.

Beautiful graphics.
Unpleasant message.
2025 goes down as the ~3rd-warmest year on record (based on ERA5).

Like in 2024, every single day this past year was warmer than the average of even the most recent reference period (1991-2020).

«Hybridkrig» - en bok av @trinehamran.bsky.social som jeg fikk lest nå i Romjula - gir et bra og kritisk overblikk over russisk innflytelse på Norge. Mange tankevekkende eksempler fra blant annet Nordnorge og Svalbard.
Aktuell og anbefales 👍

So big and bright and majestic 🤍

The picture doesn't do justice to how it felt walking in the polar night with almost full silver daylight 😍

Not sure who produced it, but genuinely think this is a genius piece of scientific communication - the construct and choice of colour scale is near-perfect.

Chapeau!

The December 2025 record-low sea-ice extent in the Arctic is caused mainly by missing ice in the Atlantic sector
- Baffin Bay, Svalbard region and Barents Sea,
which all had record-low sea-ice cover in December.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.
