I want to sit down with a level artist/designer who worked on a pretty extensive 3D game just to pick at their brain on the technical parts.

There's assumptions I can make about why things are the way they are, but it'd be nice to actually know.

Doing something at work using one of our web page tools and the first attempt didn't work. So I did it again to see if it'll throw an error. It did! "[object object]"

Ran into another comment section about how modern games use TAA to blur the snot out of everything and it looks fugly.

I don't know, I find the shimmering more annoying.

Sometimes I let some of the apps that come with a computer do their thing, just to give it a shot. Maybe it's not as bad as...

Why is this one constantly asking me to approve elevated privileges

Okay I changed my mind, they're being nuked into deep space.

The next time a CEO of a company that makes a prominent game engine says it's the developer's fault for not making performant games, maybe they should lead by example and make a AAA game that looks like something top tier from 5 years ago but can run on a potato at 60 FPS.

Enough people said they wanted to see the final slide deck, so I took the time to put it on my non-teacher github so I could share it. I didn't end up getting in trouble. I ended up being encouraged by a colleague to share it with my dept chair, and he liked it

Was playing a game and saw a bin of graphics cards.

Then I find out they're actual graphics cards. One's a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT, another a GeForce FX 5500 without its heatsink, and the last one is up in the air.

I feel like if anything, relying on AI to write for you means you'll start to lose your skill in articulating your thoughts beyond a prompt that can be interpreted in a bajillion different ways.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

A horrible thought I'm thinking about with those scalpers during Pokemon events (or really, anything), is even if people don't ever actually buy from the scalpers, the scalpers are just going to see their stock to be disposed. So it'll be a massive waste of resources.

I'm convinced the worst UI anti/dark pattern is sticking a notification icon on everything.

Bonus points if the thing that clears it is obtuse as heck to find.

This is why I don't want to use Linux as a daily driver. I've encountered too many instances where the solution was "this is going to be a weekend project."
But no one involved with git, the project, will ever make git usable, because they are of the "user experience is anathema to free software" flavor of FLOSS people who are smugly proud that unless your brain works exactly like theirs, you are gatekept out of the profession!

What I really miss from PC FPS games with a multiplayer component is the capability to play locally with bots. There are some games I'd love to play because they look fun, but being online-only is a deal breaker.

Current nagging thought:

On this computer forum I used to visit, and I forget what the user asked, but it led me down this rabbit hole of finding the location of where Windows keeps files for the recycling bin.

A mod kept deleting my posts, saying it was "dangerous" to share this info.

People say they want a minimal Windows as the default where you add on just what you need.

To which I ask: do you want to give your technology illiterate friend Ubuntu or Gentoo?

I saw a review of the RTX 5050 and it was decried as basically a piece of junk. So I had a look at how they tested it. Everything at max settings for the 1080p test and AFIAK, no testing at other settings.

So it's junk because it can't run games at some acceptable performance level at max settings?
