Every time I get the Tiber itch I visit a Catholic church and hear some mid to awful homily. Yesterday it was a priest who equated Jesus flipping over tables to our suffering as God cleansing us, & said things like cancer are for our benefit bc suffering makes us better 😬

It is truly wild to come from evangelical circles that told me Catholics blindly listen to/worship the Pope to see modern rad trad Catholics continue to foam at the mouth over Pope Francis and now Pope Leo say very Christian things like "hey guys you should care about the poor and the earth" 🙃

Finding things in the packing process, as one does, and I happily came upon my notebook from 1st year uni, which I thought I'd lost. These are sparse notes from my 1st class with the estimable @darrendyck.bsky.social. Just two quotes made the cut, apparently. Still true though, I think.

Good morning to everyone except the AI in my pdf reader that popped up a banner that read, "This looks like a long document, would you like to read a summary instead?"

My latest post is here! This is based on a research paper I presented at the Ambrose Research Conference back in March. It’s all about prayer apps: the pros and cons, praises and criticisms, and whether or not they actually help our spiritual lives. I hope you give it a read! 🙏📱
One Mediator: The Effect of Prayer Apps on Modern Spirituality

My husband according to others: *resting grumpy face, quiet, intimidating, needs structure*
My husband last night: "Bill the Pony is the best character in Lord of the Rings. Do you want me to read LOTR to you?" (bc I still haven't finished it... mea maxima culpa!)

What many students don’t understand is humanities profs don’t assign writing to get the product. We are extending invitations to know yourself. If you conjure AI, it doesn’t impact us. You cheat only yourself. And knowing yourself today is the best defense you’ve got against fascism.

*Me, walking behind my husband with a hot cup of tea*: Tea behind you
Husband: Tea above me
Me: ...Tea before me, tea beneath me, tea within me?
Husband: The breastplate of tea

Good morning, beloved.

A little bit of hope can carry you a long way.

If you must fight, fight for hope.

Today is a great day to overcome evil with good.

Curtailing people’s ability to read widely and carefully, to locate, assess, and compare different sources for themselves, and to write in their own voice about what they find and what it means, is arguably more effective than censorship. It is also one of the most obvious effects of generative AI.

Say what you will about Mia Thermopolis, but she immediately begins navigating a complicated world of internecine court politics with only her high school experience to guide her. A political natural! Put her in Congress, imo.

Gonna take this opportunity to say that I can personally deliver no script for as little as 7 million, and I know some other writers who can do it for as little as five million.

Overheard some early 20 something Christians complaining about how the Pope's funeral will be "boring" because it's going to be stripped back and simple...
Idk, something something, like Jesus? Something about humility?

Amen! Say it louder for the people in the back pews!
What if we tried this thing where progressive Christians got really into reading the Bible instead of leaving that solely in the domain of reactionary fundamentalists?

Whenever I start questioning if my ADHD meds are still working all I have to do is go a day without them and I'm like "oh, yup, this sucks. How did I live my entire life like this?"

My refill can't come fast enough.

I just tried to make a dinner reservation over the phone but I accidentally said "dinner renovation" 🙃😂 Then the guy on the phone accidentally swore so apparently we're both struggling today lol

Yesterday I found a well known "spicy" romantasy book in a children's (!) little free library, and because I'm petty (and think it's trash), I took it and threw it in the recycling. My Sister's Keeper was also there, and while it is darker, it at least has better writing.

I was sick last week, so I didn't go to church. I asked my priest to bring communion to me at home. It was my first priestly home visit. Idk what I expected; a drive by? But instead he came in, sat down, and pulled out the TINIEST chalice I've ever seen! 🥺 And we did a whole prayer service!

Ah yes, now I can return to drafting posts, overthinking said posts, and then never posting them. How I have missed this.
