In the words of Pope Leo's former seminary professor, Sr. Dianne Bergant, "you're going to work hard because the people of God deserve the best that you can give." (open.spotify.com/episode/0G6E...).
Anyway, Pope Leo is great & I still love my local Anglican church despite struggling with the schism

Catholics, preaching matters. It teaches the faithful. It's a litmus test for that community's values. I'm not there "for the Eucharist" because I can't receive it, so yeah, the homily and liturgy is important for evangelization and edification. There's a whole order of preachers for God's sake.

They had a whole spread in their bulletin about criticizing yet sympathizing with SSPX though, so I shouldn't be surprised. That's a major red flag. Accidentally walked into a rad trad church I guess. That's just the tip of the awful iceberg that was that homily.

I hope I don't have to explain why that is so morally and theologically depraved. I can't remember the last time I left a church feeling so crushed, heartbroken, and angry. I know Catholic theology of suffering is more nuanced than that. These topics have to be handled with so much care.

Honestly most of my Protestant friends at this point have more appreciation & respect for these Popes than the alleged rad trad Catholics do, based on online discourse at least

"Bad answers get us places that good answers don't." "Sometimes it's the words that we think we know that can make us mess up."

No idea what the (I assume) Tom Waits margin note is for. And I've never seen those two movies 😅 I promise my notes got more detailed after this.

He said "Bill the Pony" as if he were talking about his favourite childhood pet 🥺 Also he might be autistic so that would explain a lot 😅
