Also, anyone who’s shocked that a word for “bad version of the real thing” is closely connected to a word historically used for trans people is in for an absolute TREAT when they learn about baedel discourse.
I’m really amused that someone got very offended at how I was wrong for saying transvestite and travesty are related.
But, like… they are. Both are just a combination of the roots trans (across) and vestire (clothes), but “travesty” lost its “s” and “r” when it passed through French.
